Chrysler and Fiat working on new electric-vehicle project

Chrysler 200C EV

It was reported in August that electric-vehicles and lithium-ion battery development are two things that have gone missing from Chrysler since it emerged from bankruptcy. Originally, Chrysler and its ENVI department had planned to have an electric-car in the showrooms by the end of 2010.

Well, it seems like an electric-vehicle project may be back in the product plans under new Italian owner, Fiat SpA. According to The Wall Street Journal, Chrysler is planning a new electric-car in cooperation with Fiat. Chrysler’s board member Alfredo Altavilla let the project slip as he was visiting Fiat’s gearbox plant in Verrone, Italy.

There are no technical details available as to what the electric-vehicle will be capable of; nor do we know if Chrysler and Fiat will use an existing model or develop a new dedicated model altogether.

CEO Sergio Marchionne is scheduled to release a five-year business plan for Chrysler on Nov. 4th.
