‘Ram’ nameplate could become its own brand under Chrysler

We’re looking forward to Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne’s 5-year plan for the company, which is due out in November. So far we know that Chrysler is planning a redesign of 5 models. We also know that the company plans on moving the Chrysler brand more upmarket, while making Dodge a more sporty brand and keeping Jeep as is with some new Fiat technology.

According to sources, Chrysler Group is looking to promote its Dodge Ram nameplate to a full brand that will sell pickups, vans and SUVs.

Chrysler is looking to take its Dodge brand out of Europe, a change that is a part of a new product and brand strategy being developed under Fiat. The brand was launched there in 2006.

Inside Line says that relaunching Ram as a full brand will free up space in the Dodge-lineup for more commercial vehicles and allow it to become a more affordable performance brand.
