According to a report by the Detroit Free Press, Chrysler Group LLC plans on redesigning five models by mid-2011. The move will allow the company to rehire workers and schedule overtime, sources familiar with the matter said.
New CEO Sergio Marchionne says he wants facelifts in 18 months for the Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Caravan, Dodge Caliber, Jeep Compass and the Jeep Patriot. The company is also planning to redo the PT Cruiser but has not specified a time frame on when that will take place.
The Detroit Free Press said that Marchionne plans to submit a 5-year plan to the Obama auto task force next week after it receives approval from Chrysler’s board on Friday.
Stay tuned for more details from the plan.
