Toyota CEO confirms Lexus LF-A for the U.S. market

During his first major address to the U.S. audience, Toyota’s new president and CEO Akio Toyoda confirmed that the company will be offering an affordable, fun-to-drive sports car for the American market within a few years. Of course, most of us know that he’s talking about the Toyobaru – internally known as the 086A.

What we missed last week was that Toyoda confirmed that the high-end Lexus LF-A will also come to the U.S. market within a few years.

While the Toyobaru will be a mass-market product, the Lexus LF-A supercar will appeal to a very small number of buyers, but will help Toyota demonstrate innovation and technology in its vehicles.

The 550-hp Lexus LF-A will be limited to 500 units with prices ranging from $223,820 to $303,756. The production model will debut at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show in Oct.
