Volkswagen unveils a more fuel-efficient (slower) Touareg BlueMotion

Volkswagen has released a new BlueMotion version of the Touareg SUV in the UK with a less powerful yet more fuel-efficient engine. The 3.0L V6 TDI common-rail diesel engine now makes a total of 225-hp with a maximum torque of 405 lb-ft mated to a 6-speed automatic tiptronic gearbox.

The new Volkswagen Touareg BlueMotion also received a number of other fuel-saving upgrades such as a more efficient alternator, upgraded aerodynamics and low resistance tires.

Together, all the modifications allow the Touareg BlueMotion to return an estimated fuel economy from 23 mpg (in U.S. terms) to 28 mpg. 0 to 62 mph comes in 8.5 seconds with a top speed of 126 mph.

Pricing starts at  £34,150 for the entry-level model and  £37,545 for the range-topping SE version. Sales begin in the UK in September.
