FoMoCo sales up 20 percent in May, highest sales month since July 2008

Ford announced today that even as it decreased incentive spending in May, Ford/Lincoln/Mercury sales totaled 155,954, up 20 percent from April and the highest sales for any month since July 2008.

Three new sales records were set with the Ford Fusion selling 19,786 units, the Ford Flex selling 4,305 units and Ford hybrids (Fusion, Milan and Escape Hybrids) accounted for 3,906 units. The Lincoln MKZ and the MKS helped Ford’s luxury brand posted a 2 percent sales increase.

May was also the first full month that the 2010 Ford Mustang has been on sale. Sales for the Mustang totaled 8,812, the highest sales month since last July for the legendary pony car.

Ford said that its inventories totaled 350,000 at the end of May. As announced yesterday, Ford is increasing second quarter North American production by 10,000 vehicles, to 445,000. Ford also announced it plans to build 460,000 vehicles in the third quarter.
