After Volkswagen launches the next-generation Golf later this year, it will focus on redesigning the Jetta for next year. Following those two product launches, Volkswagen will focus its energy on a new mid-sized sedan which will be produced at the company’s new Chattanooga, Tenn., factory.
Volkswagen Group of America CEO Stefan Jacoby said that the automaker is currently choosing suppliers for the new mid-sized sedan which will be makes market debut in 2012.
In an interview with Automotive News, Jacoby said that the design for the mid-sized sedan has been approved and prototypes were shown to the company’s dealer council in Wolfsburg two weeks ago. He said that the car will be bigger and sleeker than the Passat with pricing to start at around $20,000.
For now, Jacoby said that Volkswagen will use the 2.0L and 2.5L being used in the Golf.
