BMW working on a 354-hp tri-turbo diesel for the X5
Many sources have confirmed that BMW is working on a tri-turbo diesel engine based on the existing 6-cylinder turbo currently offered in BMW’s lineup. Sources say that the engine will eventually makes it way under the hood of a BMW X5 Performance Diesel.
Output will be rated at 354-hp and will carry an EfficientDynamics badge with fuel-saving technologies such as a start/stop system and a Break Energy Regeneration system.
Insiders say that the X5 Performance Diesel will be offered to the European market with no plans of a stateside version on the drawing boards as of yet.
It will also make its way under the hood of the X6, 5-Series, 6-Series and 7-Series.
