Audi RS3 rumored to get 340-hp engine from the TT RS

Rumor has it that Audi and its engineers are thinking very hard about dropping the new turbocharged 2.5L 340-hp engine from the 2010 TT RS into the A3 hatchback. That engine will give the A3 an RS3 designation creating a very high-performance hatchback that we’d love to get behind as soon as possible.

In an interview with a Dutch website, Audi’s product development boss Michael Dick said that the company is “seriously considering” the 2.5L turbo engine for the A3.

Of course, we just want to warn you to not get your hopes up since Audi may detune the engine to produce only 300-hp – or Ingolstadt may decide against it altogether because of the horrible economy or fuel-economy regulations.

But don’t worry, we always have the 2009 Ford Focus RS (well at least your European folks do).
