Joining the Daytona 500 Chevrolet Camaro Pace Car, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced today that the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro will pace the 93rd Indy 500 on May 24, 2009. The 2009 edition marks the fifth time that the Chevrolet Camaro has been selected to pace the Indy 500. It will also be the 44th time that a GM car has paced the event – 20 of which were by Chevrolet.
Power comes from a 6.2L LS3 V8 making a total of 426-hp and a peak torque of 420 lb-ft. Indy 500 says that no drivetrain or suspension modifications are required to prepare the 2010 Camaro for its Pace Car duties.
Nonetheless the 2010 Camaro Pace Car does feature visual modifications and a fully integrated strobe system which includes a GM-designed light bar.
