Toyota sales fall 34.4 percent in January

Toyota Motor Corp. announced today that it sold a total of 117,287 vehicles last month, a decrease of 34.4 percent from the same period a year ago. The Toyota brand itself sold 102,565 units, a 34.9 percent from last January. Lexus reported January sales of 14,722 units, a decrease of 30.3 percent

Passenger car sales were led by the Camry and the Camry Hybrid with combined sales of 20,782. The Corolla compact car recorded 19,238 units. The subcompact Yaris accounted for 4,440 units while the Toyota Prius Hybrid accounted for 8,121 units.

Light-truck sales were led by the RAV4 with a total of 8,034 units sold last month. The Highlander and Highlander Hybrid reported combined sales of 5,757 units. The Tacoma mid-size pickup accounted for 7,619 units while the Tundra full-size pickup accounted for 7,076 units. 

Lexus sold a total of 2,971 ES sedans, 2,400 IS sedans, 904 LS luxury-sedans and 898 GS sedans. The Lexus RX SUV accounted for 6,520 units while the RX400h hybrid SUV accounted for 1,556 units.

Scion posted January sales of 3,923 units.
