While Volvo’s future may be uncertain, the Swedish automaker is treating “the automotive world to an early unwrapping of a car that will shine bright in the streets for years to come.” The Volvo S60 Concept has been revealed prior to its 2009 Detroit Auto Show debut. Volvo says that the S60 Concept offers the world a glimpse at what the next-generation Volvo S60 will look like when it arrives in 2010.

The front of the S60 Concept is emphasized with the enlarged Volvo emblem in the trapezoidal grille which itself has a new appearance with structured horizontal vanes. Two DNA angled headlamps flow up to the bonnet. In each of the headlamps, the lights create a sculpture creating the image of two miniature Viking longboats sailing side by side. The slim coupe roofline of the S60 Concept rides on 20-inch seven-spoke wheels. The bronze-painted brake calipers match the “Warm Liquid Copper” livery. Volvo is also showing off new ground-breaking safety innovations with the new Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake and pedestrian detection feature. At speeds of below 12 mph, the Volvo S60 uses the feature to avoid collision. In an emergency situation, the driver gets a warning with a flashing light on the head-up display.

Volvo says its first production car with the GTDi technology used on the Volvo S60 Concept will be introduced during the second half of 2009. We’ll get more info at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.
