Mercedes-Benz’s SPLITVIEW allows the driver and passenger to watch two things simultaneously

Mercedes-Benz announced today that it will begin offering a new display screen that allows the driver and front passenger to view different programs at the same time. Basically, while the driver is checking out the navigation instructions the front passenger can sit back and watch a movie on the same display. The new SPLITVIEW feature will appear on the 2010 Mercedes-Benz S-Class when it arrives in the summer of 2009.

The new technology, developed by Mercedes-Benz and Bosch, is a part of the COMAND display system which features an 8-inch monitor display that is backlighted with active matrix color. A filter masks the display and divides it in such a way that depending on the seating position, only the pixels making up one or other image can be seen.

We think this a great feature for those drivers who hate listening to their significant other go on and on about something while their driving. Oh and you can also give your passenger some headphones if you don’t want to be distracted by what they’re watching.
