VW CEO confirms Bentley diesel plans

Martin Winterkorn, CEO of of Volkswagen Group has a lot on his plate these days besides Porsche acquiring controlling share in his company. After unveiling the powerful Azure T at the 2008 LA Auto Show, Winterkorn has dropped a hint that Bentley will finally go diesel

During an interview with Auto Motor und Sport, Winterkorn said: “With Bentley we will react to the changing market conditions. I could well imagine a six-cylinder twin-turbocharged diesel in a Bentley.”

Franz-Josef Paefgen, head of Bentley, recently told the press that the luxury automaker will not introduce a diesel in any of its models. The diesel engine in question is a 3.0L twin-turbo V6 being produced by Audi. It is rumored to produce over 300-hp with a maximum torque of 440 lb-ft. It is expected to make it debut in the third-generation A8 at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.
