Subaru/Toyota rwd coupe won’t get WRX or STi, convertible version possible
It’s been a while since we’ve heard about the Subaru/Toyota rear-wheel-drive coupe. AutoCar and 7Tune today are running some new info along with new renderings of the compact coupe that is due out in 2011.
We already know that the compact rear-wheel-drive two-seater will be powered by a 2.0L 4-cylinder boxer engine that will produce close to 200-hp. Subaru will come to the market with its version first with pricing expected to come under $20,000. Toyota, who owns 16 percent of Subaru’s parent company Fuji Heavy Industries, will follow.
According to AutoCar, who spoke with a Subaru spokesperson, the car will not be replacement for the Impreza. He said that Subaru has also ruled out “WRX” and “STi” versions of the car to meet CAFE and EU’s 120g/km carbon targets.
7Tune is reporting that a convertible version of the car is also in the works.
