Next Jaguar XJ coming in 12-18 months, more of a Bentley than BMW

According to David Blackhall, managing director of Jaguar and Land Rover in Australia and New Zealand, the next-generation Jaguar XJ flagship sedan is just 12 to 18 months away. We learned last week that Jaguar filed for patents for the ‘C-XJ’ and ‘C-XE’ names meaning two concepts with the pussycat emblem are on the way.

“We”ll have new XJ in the next brief period of time, in the next 12 to 18 months or whatever and that car I expect to be… positioned significantly upmarket from where the current vehicle is,” said Blackhall in an interview with GoAuto.

How much upmarket? Well, Blackhall says that the way he explains it to people is “closer to Bentley than a BMW. That’s a really big jump there.

For those of you wondering what the C-XE stands for. Rumor has it that Jaguar is planning a rival to the Porsche Boxster and BMW Z4.
