Toyota working on plug-in hybrid iQ

Toyota will reveal the full production version of the iQ at the 2008 Paris Motor Show in October and is already working on a hybrid version. Mainstream press outlets were recently invited out to test drive the iQ and according to AutoExpress who spoke with one of the designers of the iQ, Toyota is working on hybrid variant.

Official powertrain details and fuel-economy figures of the base iQ are yet to be revealed by Toyota but the press has been saying the lineup consists of a 1.0 liter 3-cylinder engine producing 70-hp or a 1.4 liter 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel making 89-hp.

AutoExpress says that the hybrid iQ will take inspiration from the next-generation Prius – meaning we could see plug-in technology allowing for at least 15 miles on electric power alone. The hybrid Toyota iQ will most likely be revealed in 2010.
