We’ve been hearing about a baby Benz SUV for a while and now AutoCar brings us more details on the upcoming compact SUV from Mercedes-Benz that will share components with the next-generation B-Class due out in 2011.
Known as the Mercedes-Benz BLK, the compact SUV will fit below the GLK and will compete with the upcoming BMW X1, Audi Q3 or Q1 and Land Rover LRX. Mercedes will offer two versions including an all-wheel-drive and a fuel-efficient front-wheel-drive model.
Powetrain choices will include 1.6L to 2.2L 4-cylinder direct-injection diesel and petrol units. Production of the BLK is expected to take place at Mercedes-Benz’s Kecskemet, Hungary plant.
We also learned last month that Mercedes-Benz is working on a baby version of the CLS based on the A-Class.
