Mitsubishi getting greener for the future, diesels and electric-cars

Even though the Japanese automaker struggles, Mitsubishi is promising its U.S. dealers that it will not abandon the American market. There are some new products in the pipeline that should give Mitsubishi a chance to flaunt its greenness.

Currently there are only two compact vehicles in Mitsubishi’s lineup including the Lancer sedan and the Outlander crossover. Mitsubishi is now promising a clean diesel car by 2010 for existing models and a new electric-car that will go on sale in 2010. The 64-hp i MiEV is expected to get 100 miles on a single charge with a top speed of 90 to 95mph.

In the pipeline is a redesigned Lancer for 2012 followed by a redesign for the Eclipse based on the Concept-RA. The Galant will also be redesign for 2012 while the Outlander will get a diesel version by 2010.

The Endeavor crossover will be killed off after 2011 or 2012 and will be replaced by the production version of the Concept-cX.
