Maserati planning a small two-seater coupe

In an attempt to boost annual sales by 18,000 units a year, Maserati is planning on adding a small coupe to its line-up. The small new two-seater sports-coupe is expected to be based on a smaller version of the GranTurismo platform.

No word on when the baby-coupe will make its debut but we do know that Maserati is busy until next year working on the convertible version of the GranTurismo. According to AutoCar, pricing for the new small-coupe will start €80,000. Global sales are estimated to pass 6,000 units.

Power is expected to come from a 4.2L or a 4.7L V8 producing 404 horsepower. A fuel-efficient V6 engine is also possible.

When the A8 GCS Berlinetta made its debut at the 2008 Concorso d”Eleganza Villa d”Este, maker Carrozerriz Touring Superleggera said that Maserati is considering using the study as the basis for a small new coupe to take on the Porsche 911, Mercedes CLK and the BMW M3.
