Can’t afford an Evo? Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart will start under $27,000

So you really want to buy the new 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X but don’t have the $33,000 it costs to buy the base GSR model (MR starts at $38,290). Well hang on until later this fall because the Lancer Ralliart will be coming to Mitsubishi showrooms with a price tag just under $27,000. A fully-loaded Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart comes with Recaro seats, navigation with a 30-gig hard-drive, Sirius Satellite Radio, sunroof, HID headlight and tops out at $30,000. Now that’s a bargain.

Known as the middle-child of the Lancer lineup, the Lancer Ralliart is powered by a 2.0-liter DOHC MIVEC inter cooled and turbocharged engine (same one used in the Lancer Evolution) that produces 237-hp (Evo produces 295-hp) with a peak torque of 253 lb-ft. Both the Evo and the Ralliart share the new twin-clutch SST transmission.

Mitsubishi is hoping to sell 300 to 350 units of the Lancer Ralliart a month and will be pitching it as a ‘green’ option for performance enthusiasts with an estimated fuel-economy of 17/25mpg.
