VW considering more high-performance Scirocco variants
The new 2009 Volkswagen Scirocco is hitting dealerships later this year with a 122-hp 1.4 TSI as the entry level model. The range tops out at 200-hp and while Volkswagen currently has no plans to bring the car to the U.S., it is planning on what other variants to offer the luck Europeans. Jealous? Yes, so are we.
According to Auto Motor und Sport, Volkswagen is considering a BlueMotion version of the Scirocco with significantly more power and the possibility of four-wheel-drive. And for all of you that don’t really care about going ‘green,’ Volkswagen has something even more special planned.
“If customers ask something, we can quickly follow their wishes,” said CEO Martin Winterkorn with regard to the Volkswagen’s platform strategy.
Under consideration is Audi S3’s 3.2 quattro with 6-cylinders that produces 250-hp. Oh and if we beg enough, we can also get the 2.0L direct-injection with a turbocharger that produces 321-hp from the 24-hour Nurburgring race.
Hey Winterkron, can you cater to our wishes and give us the Scirocco on the stateside?
