Audi A7 to get V10 twin-turbo with 600-hp and a hybrid variant

It’s been a while since we heard anything about the forth coming Audi A7 four-door-coupe that will rival the Mercedes-Benz CLS and BMW’s upcoming 8-Series. The Audi A7 will be unveiled in June of 2009 and is expected to account for 40,000 sales per year.

“The segment for four-door coupes is growing, most significantly in North America. It is not something that can be ignored,” a senior Audi source told AutoCar. The A7 will be built on an all-new platform which will also underpin the next-generation A6.

Power will come from three petrol engines and three diesel engines. The petrol engine lineup includes a 2.8 FSI, a 3.0 liter TFSI V6 and a 4.0 TFSI V8. Diesel options will include a 2.7 liter V6 and both turbocharged and twin-turbocharged versions of the 3.0 liter V6 TDI. The engines will be mated to 6-speed manual gearbox with an option of a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The S7 and RS7 are also in the works with the RS7 featuring a modified version of the RS6’s V10 twin-turbo for a total of 600-hp with quattro four-wheel drive.

Following the Q5 hybrid, Audi will also offer an A7 hybrid with a lithium-ion battery system from Sanyo mated to a V6 engine.
