Toyota is asking 3,000 dealerships to become greener and to unify themselves with the greeness of Toyota products. Starting as early as next year, Toyota will ask all its dealers to conduct an audit of their premises and follow a plan to improve environmental performance of their showrooms.
Audits are expected to be completed by 2012. In May, at its dealer convention, Toyota will announce a new program of environmental certification for dealer premises. The Japanese automaker will also give dealers a guide to help them reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
While greener dealerships will cost more money, Toyota says that the extra cost would be recovered over an estimated 5 years.
