Volvo pitching XC60 as a C30 substitute in the U.S.

Speaking to the press at the Geneva Motor Show today, Volvo’s CEO Fredrik Arp said that even though the C30 has been on sale in U.S. for only seven months, Volvo will pitch the new XC60 crossover SUV as a replacement for the hatchback.

“We like to describe the XC60 as the perfect choice for the C30 owner who has grown out of his or her car and is looking for a larger one with the same attitude,” saidĀ Arp said.

Could it be because Volvo dealers have been complaining they’re having a hard time moving the C30 out the door? Guess this kills any possibility of C30 based SUV; at lease for the U.S.

Volvo is hoping to sell 20,000 XC60’s in the U.S. when it goes on sale in January 2009.
