According to AutoExpress, Jaguar is working to resurrect the Jaguar E-Type in hopes of taking on the Porsche 911 and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. With the sale of Jaguar to be completed within the next couple of weeks, Tata motors has its first major decision coming its way.
Jaguar came very close to producing a version of the E-Type back in 2000 based on the F-Type Concept, but the vehicle was shot down by Ford bosses. FoMoCo executives believed that Jaguar should concentrate on a new X-Type and diesel power.
Well now the big cat’s chairman, Geoff Polites has confirmed that the company is looking at a number of options for future models, including the two-seater sports car.
While a decision on the name of the car is way off, speculation has it that power will come from a variety of V8 engines including a 4.2L Supercharged unit from the XF and a 500hp 5.0L Supercharged flagship. All engines will be mated with Jaguar’s six-speed automatic gearbox and will feature steering wheel-mounted paddleshifters.
