2008 Detroit Auto Show: Fisker Karma – the sexy $80k plug-in hybrid

Fisker Karma

These are how hybrids should look. Fisker Automotive revealed their first vehicle ever, the Karma, at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. And what a way to present your first vehicle as a four-door plug-in hybrid premium sports sedan.

Based on the Maserati GranTurismo, the Fisker Karma pushes the limits with an advanced hybrid system developed by Quantam Technologies. The Q-Drive plug-in hybrid technology allows the Fisker Karma to drive the first 50 miles on battery alone. The Karma allows the driver to choose between two driving modes including Stealth Drive (which is the quiet economy mode for efficient driving) and Sport Drive (which will let you use the full power of the vehicle).

Performance wise, the Karma does 0-60 in 5.8 seconds with a top speed of 125mph.

The Fisker Karma will begin delivers in the 4th quarter of 2009 with an annual production of at least 15,000 units. Pricing starts at $80,000.
