So we wake up this morning to a bunch of sites reporting that Smart is ready for a January launch, and we’re thinking, “Yeah we knew that back in September? What’s new?” Heck, we even know the pricing for the ForTwo which was released on September 5th.
Well supposedly Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of Daimler AG, was hanging out in DC yesterday for the U.S. market press briefing. Giving us the low down on Smart’s initiative in the U.S. Zetsche told the media about an upcoming hybrid and an upcoming electric version of the Smart ForTwo for the U.S. However Zetsche said one thing that got us really excited.
According the Smart USA web site “Other engine types and sizes, including BRABUS modifications, may become available in the next few years, though no specific timeline has been outlined.” Wait what was that? A BRABUS modified Smart ForTwo coming to the U.S.?
Could it be the BRABUS Ultimate 112? Could we really go from 0-37mph in 3.9 seconds on the stateside? Well, don’t forget that BRABUS will only be making 112 units of the modified Smart ForTwo, so make sure that if it comes to the U.S. you get your hands on it quick.
