Light at night on the open road: Solar-powered LED road markers

The most difficult part of night driving is extended visibility. Who can’t remember a time where we’ve had to pause for a second and get a feel for how the road is turning up ahead. Well the Astucia SolarLite flush road stud will help out big time and give road-goers 900 meters of visibility and on the 120 British roads it is currently on, has reduced night-time accidents by 70%.

How does it have that great of an effect? Well it’s quite simple, the reaction time goes from 3.2 seconds with the road reflectors to 30 seconds with the LEDs.

Hopefully, the roads will be lit up for us stateside sometime soon. As for cost? Well, you can’t really put a price on cutting down road fatalities, but if you really want to, I have two words for you: insurance claims.
