BMW 1-Series to have unique ‘engraved’ start/stop button

Any doubts that the 1-series is very near and dear to BMW?  See no further than the start/stop button (you know, that button you press instead of twisting a key).  To remove any doubt that the diminuitive 128i and 135i coupes are the next ‘big’ thing, BMW will be engraving ‘Year One of the 1’ on the start buttons of all first-year 1-series coupes.

All the salivating BMW performance enthusiasts will have one more reason to put down a deposit on the 230-hp and 300-hp scream machines, if they haven’t already.

BMW is hoping to sell around 20,000 units of the 1-Series when the car goes on sale in spring of 2008.

Question is, what will they do for Year Two and onward?  Well, we’re hoping that we can have custom messages put on the button.  We’re calling dibs on ‘Turn me on, Baby’.  Fire up that 300+ hp twin-turbo beast and you’ll know what we mean.
