Report: All Volkswagen models to have hybrid option

According to Ulrich Hackenberg, head of product development at Volkswagen, Volkswagen is planning to offer its upcoming new models with full or partial hybrid engines.

In a recent interview with Automobilewoche while the discussed plans for Volkswagen’s rear-engine compact car, Hackenberg mentioned that the car based on the Up! concept seen at Frankfurt, as well as all future models, could be offered with either full or partial hybrid options. The rear-engine Up! will go into production in 2011.

Hackenberg said that technology.which is only available for BlueMotion vehicles, may be implemented into all Volkswagen models to reduce fuel consumption.

“Future VW models will fundamentally also be constructed with hybrid concepts,” VW head of development Ulrich Hackenberg told Automobilwoche in an interview.

Hackenberg also said that the brands new Volkswagen Tiguan will also come in a BlueMotion variant along with a chance for a BlueMotion version of its Eos model as well.

Along with the new Golf BlueMotion, Volkswagen debuted an additional five BlueMotion variants at Frankfurt. The Touran, the Jetta, the Golf Variant wagon, the Golf Plus and the Caddy, will all carry the BlueMotion badge.
