The Toyota AE86 generation sports car was a small, lightweight coupe introduced 1983 as part of the Toyota Corolla. Offered in two variants, including the Corolla Levin and Sprinter Trueno, the AE86 was offered in two body-styles; a 2-door coupe and a 3-door liftback.
Well now that Toyota doesn’t have any sports cars left in its lineup, Toyota is resurrecting the old AE86, according to Japanese car magazine Best Car. The car will weigh under 1,000 kgs and will be powered by a 1.5 liter 2NZ-FE that may produce 120 horsepower.
Toyota’s partner, Fuji Heavy Industries, will be providing a rear-wheel-drive drivetrain.
Of course this is all speculation to us since Toyota’s Scion essentially makes up for Toyota not having a sports car in its lineup. No word whether the car will make it to the US under the Toyota or Scion badging, however pricing is expected to be around $12,300.
