GMC’s Future: New compact crossover, new Acadia in 2010, Envoy gone

In an attempt to focus on cutting down on size and keeping their cars fuel efficient GM will be concentrating more on technology such as hybrids and fuel-cells. Automotive News seems to have the entire scoop on GM’s future lineup up to 2011. We’ll bring you the updates throughout the day.

For GMC, a new compact crossover will be added for the 2011 model year. The crossover will replace the Pontiac Torrent under the Buick-Pontiac-GMC strategy where GMC will concentrate only on trucks and Pontiac on cars.

The very popular GMC Acadia will get a new fresh look in 2010 and a V8 engine may be added to the model.

As GM moves away from size the large Envoy will be scratched from GMC’s future lineup. No time has been set as of yet.

GM is getting ready to launch the hybrid Yukon SUV which should be getting 19 or 20 miles to the gallon. GMC will offer a restyled and re-engineered Yukon and Yukon XL in 2012.

The GMC Canyon and the GMC Sierra will both receive a freshening in 2009 – 2010.
