Ford: 27,000 workers have left the building
Ford said today that about 27,000 US hourly workers have left Ford, accepting buyouts and early retirement offers. Ford began offering the packages last year in order to reduce its work force to match the decline in demand for Ford vehicles.
Ford said that about 37,000 workers hard originally opted for the offer but not all left. A total of 8,000 employees left last year and 19,000 this year.
Ford is hoping the move will help fund its recovery as a result of slow sales and a loss of $12.7 billion in 2006.
