While Ford is thinking of pulling out of the small-pickup segment, sales of its 2008 F-Series Super Duty large-pickups have been outstanding and exceeding the company’s expectations. According to Ford, customers are running out and picking up the redesigned 2008 F-350s while the F-450s sales also come as a surprise.
Since the beginning of 2007, Ford Super Duty Lariat variant sales are up 30 percent while the Super Duty King Ranch variant sales are up 53 percent. The biggest surprise in Ford’s large-pickup lineup is the Super Duty F-450, which according to spokesman, Wes Sherwood, “was the hottest selling of the new Super Duty pickups in terms of days to turnin April: less than 15.”
The F-250 held the spot for the top-selling Super Duty variant.
Geroge Pipas, Ford sales analyst, says that Super Duty sales accounted for 43 percent of the F-Series sales of 228,343 in April.
Ford’s profit on these models could reach as high as $17,000, which is good news for Ford since most Super Duty pickups sell for near full sticker price that can pass $60,000.
