BMW plans to offer an eight-speed automatic transmission, industry sources say. Automotive News is reporting that ZF Friedrichshafen is developing the transmission for market launch by 2009 or 2010, according to consultancy CSM Worldwide. BMW is already working hard on its new 7-Series to keep competing strong with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the Lexus LS460, which already offers a 8-speed transmission.
