After numerous spottings, Dodge is definitely back at cracking out successor to the Dodge Viper. However, little detail has been spared for Mopar’s flagship. Now though, some reports have come out hinting at what the next Viper’s engine will be.

Word has come from Mr. SRT himself, Ralph Gilles, that the next Viper will retain a V10 like all of the previous models. But that’s not all. Gilles reportedly added that the V10 will also retain the last model’s massive 8.7L displacement, which in old-school muscle car lingo, equates to 531 cubic inches of American tire-shredding balls-out craziness.

Click here for more news on the Dodge Viper.

However, not much else has been said. As we get closer to the Viper’s expected 2012 debut at the Detroit Auto Show next year, we should see more information come our way. Either way, we can hardly wait.

Chrysler Group’s Street and Racing Technology (SRT) confirmed today that the Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR lapped the Nurburgring Nordschleife in just 7:12.13 – recapturing the title as the top three fastest cars to circle the famed track.

“With no 2011 model-year Dodge Viper cars being produced, SRT joined forces with the Viper Club of America and the ViperExchange by Tomball Dodge team from Tomball, Texas, which supplied two brand-new 2010 Dodge Viper ACR’s off their showroom floor for the record-setting effort,” Chrysler said in a statement.

Click here for more news on the Dodge Viper.

“We’re extremely proud to set the lap record for a second time at the famed Nürburgring Nordschleife,” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO – SRT Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC. “Our team returned to Germany knowing we’d left some time on the track when we set our first lap record, so this effort shows the incredible depth and capability the Viper ACR has by running a full 10 seconds faster than we did in 2008.”

The Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR was driven by GT driver Dominik Farnbacher (on Sept. 14), who was secured by ViperExchange team owner and longtime Viper enthusiast Ben Keating.

According to preliminary results from the Viper Club of America, the Dodge Viper ACR lapped the Nordschleife in just 7:12 seconds.
The next-geneartion Dodge Viper is ready to hit the roads next year – but developing the new 2013 mode year Viper SRT wasn’t that easy for the folks over at Chrysler Group LLC. What was the biggest issue? Suppliers.

According to Ralph Gilles, who heads Chrysler’s design organization and SRT group, many suppliers said “thanks, but no thanks” when the automaker knocked on their doors.

“It has been tough to get low-volume suppliers,” Gilles says. “We have had a few hiccups here and there as we get suppliers. That type of fringe business has really dwindled. A lot of people are looking for big accounts now, but now that is behind us.”

Click here for more news on the Dodge Viper.

Gilles said that the redesigned Viper will be unveiled during the first quarter of 2012. He would not reveal specifics. We’re guessing it will debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

It almost doesn’t get any more ridiculous than this Saab. In fact, this new creation might be the key to saving the struggling Swedish make! Ok, that may be pushing it.

But this one-off creation was made by a die-hard fan who originally totaled his Viper and decided to salvage the powertrain by throwing it into a Saab 9-3 SportCombi. Redesigned from the ground up, the chassis was strengthened and unique suspension was used.

Although majority of the stuff comes from the Viper, the Saab retains its original body and interior.

No performance figures were released but the 8.4L V10 is good for about 600-hp and 560 lb-ft of torque – blimey!

We’ve always had a special place in our heart for the Dodge Viper. Without any stability control or driver assist technologies the car was a true V10 brute supercar that you had to tame in your own way. However, the next-generation model, which is already confirmed to have stability control, is being designed and engineered to appeal to wide range of supercar shoppers.

According to Ralph Gilles, head of design at Chrysler Group and president of the Dodge brand, Dodge has been talking to the owners of Porsche and other high-end supercar brands “to pick their brains and see what they like and don’t like about the Viper or even their own sports car.”

“It is more of a conversation to better understand this community because, honestly, it is outside our normal brand,” Gilles said in an interview with Automotive News. “We don’t deal with that type of customer on any other level except for the Viper. So we want to understand them better.”

The Viper production ended in July 2010 – the next-geneartion model is due next year.

The Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR has a very impressive track record. . In November 2009, SRT vehicle dynamics engineer Chris Winkler lapped the Laguna Seca raceway in 1:33.92, beating the previous record by 1.1 seconds. Before that in August 2008, Dutch driver Tom Coronel set a 7:22.1 production car record at the 12.9-mile Nurburgring Nordschleife.

The Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR is now back, once again making history and breaking records.

Dodge road racer Kuno Wittmer drove a street legal 2010 Dodge Viper ACR to a record lap of 1:59.995 at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, earlier this week. His time ended up breaking the 2-minute mark for the first time in a production car on the Outer Course configuration. That time shatters the previous production car lap record of 2:03.86, held by Jan Magnussen in a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 by almost 4 seconds.

“It’s amazing to come to this world-class track and shatter the production car lap record by almost 4 seconds,” said Bryan Viger, Head of Dodge Motorsports. “We brought our street-legal Viper ACR to see what Kuno could do behind the wheel, and on his second lap he’d already gone faster than the single lap record.”

Refresher: The Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR is powered by a 8.4L V10 engine making 600-hp and 560 lb-ft of torque. That allows for a 0-60 mph time of less than 4 seconds, quarter-mile time in the mid 11-second range and 0-100-0 mph in 11 seconds flat. The top speed comes in at 184 mph.

Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR Does It Again: Kuno Wittmer Sets Production Car Lap Record at Miller Motorsports Park

Wittmer breaks two-minute mark for first time in street-legal, production vehicle

April 14, 2011 , Tooele, Utah - The Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR (American Club Racer) has made history at yet another storied road course.

Renowned Dodge road racer Kuno Wittmer piloted a street legal 2010 Dodge Viper ACR to a record lap of 1:59.995 at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, on Monday, April 11, breaking the 2-minute mark for the first time in a production car on the 3.048-mile Outer Course configuration. The Viper ACR shattered the previous production car lap record of 2:03.86, held by Jan Magnussen in a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 by close to 4 full seconds.

A veteran behind the wheel of the Viper on and off the track, Wittmer continues to be impressed by the performance of the Dodge Viper ACR. “Wow, what an awesome supercar!” the Montreal native said after exiting the car. “The Viper ACR is such a blast to drive at the limit, and I can honestly say that I didn’t leave an inch out there on the track and was barely braking in the corners.”

This latest achievement joins a growing list of track records for the Dodge Viper ACR. In November 2009, SRT vehicle dynamics engineer Chris Winkler lapped the 2.238-mile, Laguna Seca raceway in 1:33.92, beating the previous record by 1.1 seconds. Dutch driver Tom Coronel set a 7:22.1 production car record at the 12.9-mile Nurburgring Nordschleife in August 2008.

Dodge Viper ACR

The Dodge Viper ACR remains the ultimate purpose-built, street-legal track car since its introduction in 2008.

Powered by the venerable 8.4-liter, V-10 engine with 600 horsepower and 560 lb.-ft. of torque, the Dodge Viper ACR continues to offer extreme performance, including 0-60 mph acceleration in less than 4 seconds, quarter-mile time in the mid 11-second range and 0-100-0 mph in 11 seconds flat.

The four-wheel independent suspension features high-performance aluminum control arms and knuckles, KW suspension with two-way adjustable competition coil-over shock absorbers with remote reservoirs.

The aerodynamic package features a carbon fiber “fanged” splitter in front and adjustable carbon-fiber wing with seven-position stanchions that allow up to an amazing 1,000 lbs. of downforce at 150 mph. Lightweight wheels, two-piece slotted StopTech brake rotors and Michelin PS Cup tires round out the ACR package.

For the 2010 model year, the Dodge Viper ACR received a shorter fifth gear ratio (changing from 0.74 to 0.80) for improved high-speed acceleration and higher straightaway speeds. A new short-throw shifter also came in 2010 models for enhanced driver experience and better performance. The rear wing profile and end plates were also redesigned to further optimize the vehicle aerodynamics and improve rear yaw downforce. These changes resulted in an increase in top speed of 4 mph (to 184 mph).

Development on the next Dodge Viper, which is inspired by a naked woman on a beach, is well underway. Last we heard anything about the next-generation Viper, Dodge brand CEO Ralph Gilles said that next model will continue to evolve, but that we shouldn’t expect any drastic changes.

Well, one drastic change will be the addition of stability control.

Click here for more news on the Dodge Viper.

In a short statement released today, Dodge said “Using a 2010 chassis as a test subject, SRT engineers expanded the development scope for the next generation Dodge Viper to include stability control tuning for the first time.”

Chrysler didn’t confirm what would power the next-generation Viper but we doubt it’ll be anything less than 600-hp engine. The 2013 Dodge Viper will debut in late 2012.

The folks over at Inside Line have done some digging and found out the Chrysler has handed over its Viper assets to Fiat, which took control of the Auburn Hills automaker on Wednesday as it emerged from Chap. 11.

Viper now being owned by Fiat means that Scott Devon, supercar entrepreneur who owns Devon MotorWorks, is still looking for a donor car for his company’s new Devon GTX. Scott Devon had made a $5.5 million bid for Viper brand and offered to lease out Chrysler’s Connor Avenue plant where the Viper is assembled.

In bankruptcy court, Chrysler said that it had no offers for Viper prior to its Chapter 11 filing.

It was reported earlier this month that Chrysler failed to disclose another $35 million bid for Viper. In a letter to Bob Nardelli, Rep. Darrell Issa, Calif. said that the lack of disclosure about the information on the bid suggests that Chrysler”s bankruptcy was mishandled.

Guess all that doesn’t matter anymore.
