Acura has released the pricing details on the new 2010 Acura ZDX crossover, which will arrive at dealerships starting Dec. 15. Pricing will start at $45,495 for the base ZDX.

The 2010 Acura ZDX with a Technology Package will run you $49,995 and will ad Acura’s Navigation System with Voice Recognition, AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic with Traffic Rerouting, AcuraLink Real-Time Weather with radar image maps, a full VGA display screen and an innovative new multi-view rear camera. It also includes an upgraded Acura/ELS Surround 415-watt Premium Audio System with a built-in 15-gigabyte hard disk drive media storage system, a GPS-linked, solar-sensing, dual-zone automatic climate control system and Keyless Access System.

The 2010 Acura ZDX with an Advance Package costs $56,045 and builds on the Technology Package with a new blind spot information system, Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigating Braking System, an Integrated Dynamic System active damper system, heated and ventilated front seats with Perforated Milano Premium Leather seating surfaces, premium brushed tricot headliner material and a sport steering wheel.

All 2010 Acura ZDX model are powered by a 3.7L VTEC V6 engine making 300-hp and a maximum torque of 270 lb0ft. EPA-rated fuel-economy comes in at 16/23 mpg (city/highway). All ZDX models also get Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system.

From the picture, which doesn’t show the Range Rover, it seems that the Audi R8 was rear-ended by the BMW 6-Series, causing it to smash into the Rover.

At the 2009 LA Auto Show early next month, the 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG will make its U.S. debut alongside the fuel-sipping ML450 HYBRID SUV, the first hybrid SUV from Mercedes-Benz.

We’re hoping Mercedes-Benz will offer some pricing details on the US-spec Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. Earlier this week, it was announced that 563-hp SLS AMG will carry a price tag of 177,310 euros ($265,513 USD) in Europe.

The Mercedes-Benz ML450 HYBRID will make its U.S. debut with a 3.5L V6 engine mated to two-electric motors producing a total of 335-hp and a peak torque of 381 lb-ft. Mercedes-Benz says that fuel-economy is improved by 46 percent. The ML450 HYBRID SUV can also drive solely on electric power up to a maximum speed of 34 mph.

The F-Cell car has a range of about 240 miles and, running on compressed hydrogen, boasts an equivalent fuel mileage of 86.6 city-highway combined miles per gallon. In 2010, 200 production F-Cell cars will be delivered to customers in the U.S. and Europe as part of a special lease program.

BlueTEC – The World’s Cleanest Diesels

Sharing center stage with the F-Cell and the SLS AMG, the fuel-sipping E350 BlueTEC is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 diesel with 210 horsepower, an impressive 400 lb.-ft. of torque and approximately 30 percent better fuel economy than a comparable gasoline engine. Now with revolutionary AdBlue injection that makes diesel exhaust super-clean, the E350 BlueTEC will be available in all 50 states in Spring 2010.

S-Class Debuts SPLITVIEW Technology

Also at the L.A. Show is an S-Class equipped with SPLITVIEW — a single display screen that allows the driver and front passenger to view two different programs at the same time. For example, the driver can view the navigation system, while on the very same display screen, the front passenger can watch a movie.

ML450 HYBRID Boasts 46 Percent Better Fuel Economy

Making its West Coast debut at the L.A. Auto Show, the Mercedes-Benz ML450 HYBRID uses a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine, two electric motors and sophisticated electronics to produce more than 46 percent better fuel economy than a comparable V8-powered ML550 model. Integrated within the modified automatic transmission, each magneto-electric motor is dedicated to a specific purpose — one for pulling away under electric power, the other specifically for acceleration. With both electric motors, the ML450 HYBRID has a total system performance of 335 horsepower and 381 pound-feet of torque.

During parking and low-speed operation, the ML450 HYBRID runs on the electric drive only. The ML450 HYBRID can drive solely on electric power up to a maximum speed of 34 mph.

The electric motors are powered by a liquid-cooled, 288-volt nickel-metal-hydride battery that’s enclosed under the rear cargo floor.

Kia’s fist U.S. built vehicle, a white 2011 Kia Sorento crossover, rolled off the production line today at Kia Motoring Manufacturing Georgia.

“The start of production for our first manufacturing facility in the United States further demonstrates our commitment to growth in North America and we are proud to be adding 2,500 jobs to the local economy” said B.M. Ahn, group president and CEO, Kia Motors America (KMA) and KMMG.

The KMMG plant is expected to produce 300,000 vehicles when it reaches full capacity. It employs some 2,500 jobs, with on-site and nearby suppliers creating 7,500 jobs.

WEST POINT, Georgia, November 16, 2009 – The first U.S.-built Kia vehicle¹, a white 2011 MY Sorento CUV, rolled off the production line today at Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia (KMMG), officially opening the first U.S. Kia Motors² plant. KMMG is expected to produce 300,000 vehicles at full capacity and employ 2,500 people, with on-site and nearby suppliers creating 7,500 additional jobs in the region.

Representing an investment by Kia Motors of $1 billion, KMMG will establish new benchmarks for vehicle quality and productivity by utilizing some of the world’s most advanced manufacturing techniques. KMMG’s general assembly area is outfitted with more than a half mile of height-adjustable conveyors to achieve the most favorable installation position for each team member and reduce physical fatigue. Also in general assembly, KMMG is the only plant in North America outfitted with wood flooring, which provides a more comfortable and forgiving work environment for team members.

Built on 2,200 acres, the complex includes a body stamping facility, a transmission shop where the all-new 2011 Sorento’s six-speed automatic transmission is produced, and a two mile test track in addition to the main assembly plant. The plant’s 186-foot-long stamping press delivers 5,400 tons of pressure to stamp steel into 17 different types of vehicle panels for the all-new Sorento, operating at a speed of seven to 15 strokes per minute. The massive stamping equipment spans from almost 20 feet below the floor to 39.4 feet high.

KMMG continues Kia Motors’ aggressive investment in the U.S. market. Since 2002, more than $1.3 billion has been invested in various facilities throughout the country, including a dedicated corporate campus and design center in Irvine, Calif., a state-of-the-art research and development center in Ann Arbor, Mich. and custom-built vehicle proving grounds in Mojave, Calif.

Toyota has unveiled the new Land Cruiser for the UK market which looks a lot different from the one we get here in the states. To be honest, we’re a bit relieved we don’t get this version.

The UK Land Cruiser is offered with a 5-door model powered by a 171-hp 3.0L D-4D engine matted to a 5-speed automatic transmission. Toyota will offer three trim-levels including LC3, LC4 and LC5 with prices ranging from £29,795 to £44,795.

Design and Construction
The new Land Cruiser is only slightly larger than its predecessor, which helps maintain its off-road agility. The styling combines the model’s traditionally robust looks with styling cues that were first introduced on the larger Land Cruiser V8.

Intelligent interior packaging provides more space inside the cabin, with Toyota EasyFlat third row seats that can be raised of folded flat at the touch of a button (LC4 and LC5 models). The usable loadspace has been significantly increased and a new rear glass hatch allows items to be loaded without having to open the full side-hinged tailgate – ideal for tight parking places.

Toyota has retained the body-on-frame construction that has always been an integral part of Land Cruiser’s exceptional off-road ability. Careful attention to the suspension design and NVH measures ensure high standards of on-road ride, handling and comfort are maintained.

Technology for on and off-road performance
New Land Cruiser introduces a series of advanced but user friendly features that help the driver tackle even the most challenging routes. These include: -

The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee was spotted driving around in Michigan roads looking rather nice in a matte-black paint job with black wheels. We’re guessing this is just a prototype of the next-generation Grand Cherokee making rounds at local dealerships.

Refresher: The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee will be offered with two new powertrains including Chrysler’s new flexible fuel 280-hp Phoenix 3.6L V6 which increases fuel-economy by up to 11 percent. The range will be topped off with a 5.7L HEMI V8 making 360-hp and a maximum torque of 390 lb-ft.

The launch of the next-generation BMW X3 SUV has been delayed to encourage buyers to custom order the crossover according to their specifications. According to the CEO of BMW North America, Jim O’Donnell, the move will allow BMW to offer up to four engine choices at launch, making a lower-priced version available from the beginning. The current BMW X3 is only available with an all-wheel-drive model that starts at $39,575.

The delay means that the next-generation X3 won’t hit U.S. showrooms until mid-2011, six months after the model goes on sale in Europe.

Production of the BMW X3 will be moved from Magna Steyr in Austria to BMW’s Spartanburg, S.C., factory.

O’Donnell says that lower-priced versions could offer a 4-cylinder gasoline and a diesel variant. He said that a final decision will be made by the end of this year.

At the 2010 Detroit Auto Show in January, Volkswagen will show the new 2011 Volkswagen Touareg. The lineup is reported to include a hybrid version of the SUV.

The Volkswagen Touareg V6 TSI Hybrid uses the German automakers BlueMotion Technologies that are mated to parallel hybrid system and a supercharged V6 TSI allowing the SUV to produce a total of 324-hp. The Touareg Hybrid is able to travel up to 31 mph on the electric motor.

Volkswagen says that when the Touareg V6 TSI Hybrid enters production in 2010, it will have a towing capacity of 3.5 metric tons (7,716 pounds).

If you want one of the most powerful hybrids in the world, get ready to cash out close to $90,000. BMW has announced the price tag of the 2010 BMW ActiveHybrid X6, which will start at $89,725, including the $875 destination and delivery charge.

The 2010 BMW ActiveHybrid X6 is powered by a reworked version of the 4.4L twin-turbocharged V8 from the xDrive50i that now produces 400-hp and a peak torque of 450 lb-ft. BMW also took out the starter, alternator, or belt drive for the air-conditioning compressor. The dual-circuit cooling system has been modified for all-electric operation. The engine is then mated to electric-motors that have an output of 91-hp and 86-hp respectively, with a peak torque values of 192 lb-ft and 206 lb-ft.

Combined, the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 produces a total of 480-hp with a maximum torque of 575 lb-ft. Mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission, 0 to 60 mph comes in just 5.4 seconds with a top speed of 130 mph. The ActiveHybrid X6 is BMW’s first full-hybrid vehicle that can run exclusively on electric-power at speeds of up to 37 mph. The combustion engine is activated automatically when required. Overall, fuel-economy is improved by roughly 20 percent.

Sales of the 2010 ActiveHybrid X6 will begin later this year.

While there is a lot of hype around GM’s Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid vehicle, GM is out to remind us that it is still making progress on its fuel-cell vehicle program. The Detroit automaker said that it is making significant developments towards building advanced hydrogen fuel-cell designs that will result in more affordable hydrogen-powered vehicles.

Currently, GM’s Project Driveway, which was launched in 2007, consists of more than 100 Chevrolet Equinox fuel cell electric vehicles.

“The vehicles were hand-built, making them very expensive, but the builds helped establish a new supplier community and resolved many technical challenges,” said GM’s Executive Director, Fuel Cell Activities Charles Freese.

“It is still expensive, but the costs are coming down dramatically,” Freese said. “Our next-generation fuel-cell architecture is 220 pounds lighter, uses about half the parts and roughly a third of the precious metals, compared to the still impressive [Chevrolet] Equinox demonstration vehicles.”

Toyota has announced that its 2010 4Runner will compete in the renowned SCORE Baja 1000. The modified 4Runner will run over 672 miles in a time limit of 31 hours in what’s known as one of the toughest desert races in the world.

The 42nd Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 anticipates over 325 entries from around the world. The last desert race of the season is scheduled for November 20-21, in Ensenada, Mexico.

The 2010 Toyota 4Runner will arrive in dealerships later this month with prices starting at $29,975 for the base SR5 4×2 model. Power comes from a 270-hp 4.0L DOHC 24-valve EFI VVT-i V6 engine with a maximum torque of 278 lb-ft.

Toyota 2010 Model Year 4Runner Slated for the SCORE Baja 1000

The Fifth Generation 2010 Toyota 4Runner to run in the “Stock mini” Class

TORRANCE, Calif. (Nov. 4, 2009) – Toyota will make history by entering its 2010 Model Year Fifth Generation 4Runner in the internationally renowned SCORE Baja 1000. With over 672 miles in length and a time limit of 31 hours, the Baja 1000 is one of the toughest desert races in the world.

Over 325 entries are expected from around the world to compete in the 42nd Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 – the last desert race of the season scheduled for November 20-21, in Ensenada, Mexico.

Toyota will test its newest 4Runner and showcase the SUV’s capabilities and durability in the Mexican desert’s treacherous terrain. “Historically, only half of the racers finish this incredible test of man and machine, but we’re confident the Fifth Generation 4Runner will be a major contender in the stock mini class and can handle the grueling course”, said Les Unger, Toyota’s national motorsports manager.

One of the scheduled drivers will be the legendary Ivan “Ironman” Stewart – 22-time SCORE Baja race winner. Stewart has successfully conquered the toughest obstacles in off-road racing and was inducted into the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2006. “I’m thrilled to have been chosen to be one of the drivers to once again prove the toughness and durability of Toyota vehicles. I’m sure the Fifth Generation 4Runner will be tough enough to survive even my Iron foot”, said Stewart. Co-driving the 4Runner will be the teams of Bob Ditner/Zach Zwillinger from the start line to Borrego Junction, Ken Ziesemer/Mark Sasaki throughout the San Felipe loop, Joe Nolan/Paul Williamsen from Borrego to Valle De La Trinidad, and Ivan Stewart/Bob Ditner from Valle De La Trinidad to the finish line. The 4Runner will run on General Tires and utilize the famous Baja Pits Organization throughout the course.

The 2009 Baja 1000 will be a single loop race – starting and finishing in Ensenada on the Pacific Ocean side of the magnificent peninsula and run through Mexican villages — luring in tens of thousands of spectators.

The Fifth Generation 4Runner
The fifth generation 4Runner has an improved V6 engine with better fuel economy and 34 more horse-power than the previous V6. It also adds 17 inch wheels and two additional airbags-for a total of eight, providing buyers more than $1,700 worth of added content. However, the price of the popular four wheel drive V6 SR5 remains unchanged at $30,915. Vehicles will begin arriving at dealerships in late-November.

At the 2009 LA Auto Show, Mitsubishi will show the public its new 2010 Outlander GT. The automaker released a bunch of images of the SUV today, however, technical details are still being kept under wraps.

The 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander GT is available in Australia with two engine choices including a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine making 167-hp mated to a 5-speed manual or an optional CVT automatic with Sports Mode sequential style shift. The top-of-the-line model is powered by a 3.0L V6 making 226-hp and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with Sports Mode sequential style shift change and INVECS Smart Logic.

General Motors Company said today that it has started production of the 2010 Hummer H3 SUV and the H3T pickup at its Shreveport, LA plant as inventory continues to drop.

Inventory “is very low,” Hummer spokesman Nick Richards told Automotive News. As of November 1, Hummer had about 1,138 vehicles in the United States.

“We’re hungry for Hummer product,” said John Sutliff, president of Sutliff Cadillac, Hummer and Saab in Mechanicsburg, Pa. His dealership currently has two 2009 H3 SUVs and six 2009 H3T pickups. Richards said that the 2010 H3 SUVs should start hitting dealerships in early December.

The halt on production “wasn’t our decision,” he said. “It was based on everything going on around” GM’s sale of Hummer to China’s Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co.

The 2010 Hummer H3 and the H3T are now available with a new E85 Flex Fuel 5.3L V8 engine.

In a statement released today, GM announced that they will be investing $C 90 million to re-tool CAMI Automotive’s West Body Shop plant in Ontario, Canada. According to DetNews, the investment plan will boost production of the GMC Terrain and Chevrolet Equinox by about 40,000 units and recall about 150 laid-off employees.

“This investment is an excellent example of what happens when you get the product right.” said GM Canada’s president, Arturo Elias. “If the product is right, everything else follows – increased production, increased employment and strong market demand.”

The Equinox and Terrain are two of GM’s best-selling models. So far this year, GM has sold 63,850 vehicles.

Hummer, which is on its way to becoming owned by China’s Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery, announced updates to its 2010 Hummer H3 and H3T mid-sized SUVs. The new additions include new colors and an available E85 Flex Fuel 5.3L V8 engine.

The 5.3L V8 Flex Fuel engine makes 300-hp with a maximum torque of 320 lb-ft. It is mated to GM’s Hydra-Matic 4L60 electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission.

The new color choices for 2010 include Red Rock Metallic, Silver Stone Metallic, and Canyon Metallic.

Pricing for the 2010 Hummer H3 start at $33,390 while the 2010 H3T starts at $30,915. The H3T Alpha starts at $35,680. All models will hit dealerships next month.

HUMMER Introduces Biofuel Capability, New Colors for the 2010 H3 and H3T

DETROIT – HUMMER announced today updates to the 2010 HUMMER H3 and H3T midsize all-terrain vehicles including the addition of three new exterior colors and an available E85 Flex Fuel capable 5.3L V8 engine as part of its commitment to offer a biofuel powertrain in all body styles by 2010. Both H3-based vehicles will begin arriving in dealerships before the end of 2009 in North America.

“In 2007, HUMMER committed to offer a biofuel powertrain in every vehicle by 2010 and follows through on that promise with the addition of a new 300-horsepower, E85 Flex Fuel capable 5.3L V8,” says James Taylor, HUMMER CEO. “This is just the first step in HUMMER’s evolution to offer responsible, yet highly capable all-terrain vehicles. Future models will be lighter, more efficient and will continue to offer the best blend of off-road capability and on-road performance.”

The new 5.3L V8 Flex Fuel engine is standard in all 2010 Alpha series’ models and is a powerful and efficient member of GM’s legendary small-block V-8 family. It is rated at 300 horsepower (224 kW) and 320 lb.-ft. of torque (434 Nm). An aluminum cylinder block is used with the H3 Alpha’s engine. It helps reduce overall mass and maintains a more desirable front-to-rear weight balance.

A Hydra-Matic 4L60 electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission is paired with the 5.3L engine. Flat towing is enabled on all H3 and H3T models.

HUMMER also continues to expand customer choice with the introduction of three new premium colors for 2010, which include Red Rock Metallic, Silver Stone Metallic, and Canyon Metallic.

The H3 and H3T feature an extensive list of standard equipment, including full-time electronic four-wheel drive; Hill Start Assist; Stabilitrak electronic stability control system; four-wheel anti-lock brakes with traction control; roof-rail side curtain airbags and dual-stage frontal air bags with passenger sensing system; tire pressure monitoring system; OnStar; bluetooth hands-free capability and HUMMER’s premium five-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty plan.

Pricing for the 2010 model year H3 remains unchanged from 2009, with a starting MSRP of $33,390. H3T pricing begins at $30,915, a slight $165 increase from 2009. HUMMER has lowered the 2010 H3T Alpha price $335 with a new MSRP of $35,680. All 2010 models also include destination charges of $780.

The 2010 HUMMER H3 and H3T are scheduled to arrive in dealerships in December 2009.

While we still await the arrival of the road-going Mini Countryman Crossover, which has now been delayed to March 2010, Prodrive is reportedly prepping the vehicle for a possible WRC entry for Mini. According to a report by Autosport, a World Rally Car version of the Countryman is likely to be launched at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

The publication says that Prodrive has been working on a new generation Mini WRC for much of 2009, developing the parts required without actually working on a base model.

“Right now there is nothing to say and I don’t think there will be anything to say until the spring, said Technical director David Lapworth. “This is not an official statement from me, it’s just the way things look. That said, it’s going to be very difficult to keep this thing under wraps.”

Time once was when seat belts were considered a luxury option in a vehicle. Ford, Motor Company is set to revolutionize the seatbelt as we know it. The next-generation Ford Explorer, which is set to go into production next year, will bring to the market the world’s first inflatable seat belts, combining the best safety features of the airbag and the standard seatbelt.

During daily wear, the seatbelts operate just as conventional ones and are fully compatible with child safety seats. According to Ford, their research showed that 90% of those who tested the new belts found them just as or more comfortable than traditional seatbelts, which Ford attributes to the softer, padded nature of the belts construction.

The belt consists of an accordian-folded inflatable airbag that uses cold compressed gas to fill it upon impact. The belts inflate at a lower rate and with less pressure than traditional airbags being that there is no need to fill a gap between the passenger and surface, such as with traditional airbags. The concept behind the belt is the diffusion and distribution of energy caused by impact over a larger area, and therefore easing pressure on the head, neck, and chest.

Ford has always been on the cutting edge of safety innovation, as they were the first automaker to introduce seatbelts in 1955, and made driver and front-passenger air bags standard in most vehicles by the mid 90’s.

FORD INTRODUCES INDUSTRY’S FIRST INFLATABLE SEAT BELTS TO ENHANCE REAR SEAT SAFETY

DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 5, 2009 – Ford Motor Company is bringing to market the world’s first automotive inflatable seat belts, combining attributes of traditional seat belts and air bags to provide an added level of crash safety protection for rear seat occupants.

The advanced restraint system is designed to help reduce head, neck and chest injuries for rear seat passengers, often children and older passengers who can be more vulnerable to such injuries.

Ford will introduce inflatable rear seat belts on the next-generation Ford Explorer, which goes into production next year for the North American market. Over time, Ford plans to offer the technology in vehicles globally.

“Ford’s rear inflatable seat belt technology will enhance safety for rear-seat passengers of all ages, especially for young children who are more vulnerable in crashes,” said Sue Cischke, Ford group vice president of Sustainability, Environmental and Safety Engineering. “This is another unique family technology that builds on our safety leadership, including the most top safety ratings of any automaker.”

Safer and more comfortable
Advances in air bag inflation and seat belt construction methods have enabled Ford and its suppliers to develop inflatable seat belts that are designed to deploy over a vehicle occupant’s torso and shoulder in 40 milliseconds in the event of a crash.

In everyday use, the inflatable belts operate like conventional seat belts and are safe and compatible with infant and children safety car and booster seats. In Ford’s research, more than 90 percent of those who tested the inflatable seat belts found them to be similar to or more comfortable than a conventional belt because they feel padded and softer. That comfort factor could help improve the 61 percent rear belt usage rate in the U.S., which compares to 82 percent usage by front seat passengers, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data.

“Ford is pioneering inflatable seat belt technology to help enhance crash safety protection, while encouraging more people to buckle up with a more comfortable belt,” said Paul Mascarenas, Ford vice president, Engineering, Global Product Development.

In the event of a frontal or side crash, the inflatable belt’s increased diameter more effectively holds the occupant in the appropriate seating position, helping to reduce the risk of injury.

Vehicle safety sensors determine the severity of the collision in the blink of an eye and deploy the inflatable belts’ air bags. Each belt’s tubular air bag inflates with cold compressed gas, which flows through a specially designed buckle from a cylinder housed below the seat.

The inflatable belt’s accordion-folded bag breaks through the belt fabric as it fills with air, expanding sideways across the occupant’s body in about the same amount of time it takes a car traveling at highway speed to cover a yard of distance.

The use of cold compressed gas instead of a heat-generating chemical reaction – which is typical of traditional air bag systems – means the inflated belts feel no warmer on the wearer’s body than the ambient temperature. The inflatable belts also fill at a lower pressure and a slower rate than traditional air bags, because the device does not need to close a gap between the belt and the occupant.

“It’s a very simple and logical system, but it required extensive trial and error and testing over several years to prove out the technology and ensure precise reliable performance in a crash situation,” said Srini Sundararajan, safety technical leader for Ford research and advance engineering.

The inflated belt helps distribute crash force energy across five times more of the occupant’s torso than a traditional belt, which expands its range of protection and reduces risk of injury by diffusing crash pressure over a larger area, while providing additional support to the head and neck. After deployment, the belt remains inflated for several seconds before dispersing its air through the pores of the air bag.

Ford’s safety leadership record continues to grow
The inflatable seat belt debuting on the next-generation Ford Explorer continues Ford’s record of safety innovation. Ford today has more 5-star U.S. government ratings and “Top Safety Picks” from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety than any other automaker.

Ford was the first automaker to introduce seat belts in 1955 and led the way in making driver and front-passenger air bags standard in most vehicles by 1993.

This year, Ford introduced radar-enabled Adaptive Cruise Control with Collision Warning with Brake Support and Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®) with Cross Traffic Alert (CTA). These technologies – introduced on the new 2010 Ford Taurus and Fusion – help drivers avoid potential dangerous crash situations using radar to detect the relative position of other vehicles and warn the driver with a combination of visual and audio alerts.

Ford’s other recent seat belt and air bag innovations include the industry-first BeltMinder system in 2000, which the U.S. government credited with increasing front belt usage by 5 percent in Ford vehicles. On the 2002 Explorer, Ford launched the industry’s first rollover-activated side curtain air bags – called Safety Canopy – as well as Roll Stability Control technology that goes a step beyond traditional stability control systems by helping measure and prevent side-to-side skidding and dangerous situations that could lead to rollovers.

Ford also introduced on the 2009 F-150 and 2010 Taurus some of the industry’s first pressure-based air bag technologies that help deploy side air bags up to 30 percent faster.
