Reports are out now stating that the brand, which has no relation to famous Ford Mustang guru Carroll Shelby, has received a new name: SSC North America. This change comes after a licensing settlement between Carroll Shelby International and SSC where SSC agreed to drop Shelby’s name from the company name.

In a quick recap, SSC North America introduced the Tuatara concept, which is the successor to the SSC Ultimate Aero. Jerod Shelby, founder and owner of SSC North America, is still adamant about knocking the Veyron off of its throne for being the world’s fastest production car.

So far, the rumor says that the Tuatra will be powered by a mid-engined, twin-turbocharged 7.0L V8 that’s supposed to churn out a nasty 1,350 horsepower through the rear wheels and a seven-speed conventional manual.

We reported this past weekend that American supercar maker Shelby Supercars will reveal the name of its upcoming model in the coming weeks. Well, it just happened to be the ‘coming days.’ The Washington based supercar maker announced today that the next SSC Ultimate Aero II will carry the name “TUATARA (pronounced twu‐tar‐ah).”

“The design specifications for the Next Generation SSC were so extreme; we knew early on that a proper name would be a key piece of the puzzle for this project,” says Jerod Shelby, Founder, Lead Designer and CEO of SSC.

The name of the SSC Tuatara was apparently inspired by a modern day New Zealand reptile that is a direct descendent of dinosaurs.

“While the Tuatara is a very unique creature, there was a particular property of this reptile that immediately married it with SSC,” SSC said in a statement. “The Tuatara possesses the fastest evolving DNA in the world, and amongst the world’s greatest supercar manufacturers, so does SSC.”

So far we know that the SSC Tuatara will be powered by a 6.8L V8 engine making 1,350-hp, which will allow it to go from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds with a top speed of 275 mph. That will make it the fastest car in the world after the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.

We’re eagerly awaiting the arrival of Shelby Supercars latest model, which is being aimed directly at the current fastest production car on the planet – the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. What will Shelby Supercars call it? Well, we’re not really sure but so far the car is being known as the SSC Ultimate Aero II.

When Bugatti announced that its new Veyron 16.4 Super Sport officially set a new landspeed world record for production cars hitting a top speed of 267.81 mph, American company Shelby Supercars (SSC) was quick to congratulate the German automaker and said that they are working on a new project that will debut before the end of the summer.

“When the Ultimate Aero broke the record in 2007, we knew it was just a matter of time until it was broken by someone else,” SSC said.

Shortly after that SSC released a teaser for the Ultimate Aero II and today the folks at Top Gear have revealed two images showing the full car. According to sources, SSC is aiming for a top speed of 275 mph from a 6.8L V8 engine making 1,350-hp.

We’re pretty excited to see the SSC Ultimate Aero II in every angle – stay tuned.

Shelby Supercars teases next-generation Ultimate Aero

When the new 2011 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport officially set a new landspeed world record for production cars at 267.81 mph, Shelby Supercars (SSC) was quick to congratulate Bugatti and their achievement. The creators of the American-built SSC Ultimate Aero, which held the record prior to the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, then said that they are working on a new project that will debut before the end of the summer.

“Not much can be said at this time except that we”ll be upping the ante on all fronts,” SSC said.

Shelby has just released a teaser and while it’s not much – we do know that the company will do its best to top the first-generation Aero, which hit a top speed of 256.14 mph.

SSC Ultimate Aero

If you haven’t heard already the new 2011 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport has officially set a new landspeed world record for production cars hitting a top speed of 267.81 mph. Well, the folks over at Shelby SuperCars, whose American-built SSC Ultimate Aero held the record prior to the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, are saying that they are working on a faster Aero to take their title back.

“We would sincerely like to congratulate Bugatti,” SCC said in a statement. “When the Ultimate Aero broke the record in 2007, we knew it was just a matter of time until it was broken by someone else.”

SSC went on to say:

[W]e’ve been working on a new project to debut before the end of the summer. Not much can be said at this time except that we’ll be upping the ante on all fronts. Having famed American designer Jason Castriota as our lead design enables SSC to reflect its engineer and performance in its aesthetics. It’s impossible for us to be more thrilled about having him on board and we’re anxious to show the world what we have up our sleeve.

Guess we’ll have to wait and see what SSC has up its sleeve. Stay tuned – and yes, that’s Kim Kardashian standing next to the Ultimate Aero.

The 2007 SSC Ultimate Aero, the world’s fastest production car with a top speed of 257 mph, is on the auction block at eBay Motors. For an auction as exclusive as this, one must be pre-approved to even bid on the item.

The Ultimate Aero is powered by a 1183-hp engine with a peak torque of 1094 lb-ft, the SSC Ultimate Aero does 0-60 in 2.8 seconds with a top speed of 257mph.

This 2007 SSC Ultimate Aero is the same exact model used to break the World Production Speed Record and has a total of 1,345 miles on it – now that’s exclusive. The current bid stands at $425,100 with a total of 6 bids.

Watch out Tesla and Fisker, Shelby SuperCars, the makers of the fastest production road-legal car, has released details for its new electric vehicle technology that will be unveiled later this year. Besides working on the fastest electric-car production car, the Ultimate Aero EV, SSC will unveil a new technology that allows electric-vehicles to recharge in 10 minutes while providing a range of up to 200 miles on a single charge.

Known as the AESP (All-Electric Scalable Powertrain, SSC’s Nanotechnology Rechargeable Lithium Battery pack is rechargeable in 10 minutes on a standard 110 outlet. SSC says that ASEP’s main feature is its scalability. That means it is scalable from 200 horsepower for an economy and midsize-car, to 500-hp for light trucks and SUVs, and up to 1,200-hp for heavy-duty trucks or military vehicles.

SSC said that it will wholesale the ASEP to mass producing automakers, government and to public, private and niche businesses. The ASEP is designed to meet manufacturing and quality requirements of all major automakers with pricing starting at $5,000-$6,000 per unit for 1000 to 10,000 units.

SSC Announces Green Technologies Revealing Revolutionary Battery and Electric Powertrain Technology

Shelby SuperCars (SSC) released the details today of the revolutionary electric vehicle technology to be unveiled in the second quarter of this year. SSC will reveal its innovative all-electric powertrain in the current Ultimate Aero, the Guinness Certified “Fastest Production Car in the World,” to create the Ultimate Aero EV and will reinforce the company as a benchmark in the auto industry. But unlike other auto manufacturers, SSC”s new technology will set a new standard in the electric car industry ““ one of 10 minute recharges, super horsepower and ranges of up to 200 miles per charge.

While other auto manufacturers focus on producing Green technology for specific cars, SSC”s focus is on producing Green technologies for a wide range of applications for an even wider range of vehicles. SSC”s electric powertrain package, named AESP (All-Electric Scalable Powertrain) is unique due to its scalable horsepower, light weight, compact size, quick recharge time and liquid cooling.

SSC”s Nanotechnology Rechargeable Lithium Battery pack is rechargeable in only 10 minutes on a standard 110 outlet and has a 150-200 mile range on a single charge. This means that in a typical 8 hour day, the car using this technology could go 200 miles, charge for 10 minutes (the time it typically takes to fill up a tank of gas), then drive 200 more miles, charge for 10 minutes and continue on. Some other EV technologies necessitate an overnight charge creating a class of “commuter electric cars” and are not practical alternatives to gas combustion automobiles.

The AESP”s main feature is its scalability. The all-electric SUV or delivery truck is now a reality in the not-so-distant future. The AESP is scalable from 200 horsepower for economy and midsize cars, to 500 horsepower for light trucks and SUVs, and up to 1200 horsepower for delivery trucks, heavy duty equipment, buses and military vehicles. The revolutionary design proves electric-powered vehicles not only match, but also provide more linear power (electric motors have 100% torque at 0 RPM) and overall performance than internal combustion vehicles.

The SSC Ultimate Aero is officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the fastest road-going car in the world. Shelby Supercars has now updated the Ultimate Aero for the 2009 model year giving it a 15 percent increase in horsepower, a revamped front fascia design, and a couple of interior upgrades.

The most significant change however is the 1-piece billet aluminum engine block which improves structural integrity and oiling capabilities allowing the Ultimate Aero to produces a total of 1,287-hp – up from  1,183-hp. We understand that you can never have enough horsepower but at what point does having too much horsepower become illegal for the road.

Either way, Shelby Supercars says that the 2009 Ultimate Aero will be able to reach world-record speeds of 270 mph beating its current record of 257 mph.

SHELBY SUPERCARS UNVEILS NEWLY REFINED 2009 ULTIMATE AERO, 15% HORSEPOWER INCREASE.

WEST RICHLAND, WA (12/10/2008)

After holding the “World”s Fastest Production Car” title for the past year, the Shelby SuperCars’ Ultimate Aero is receiving several refinements for the 2009 model year. The SSC engineering team equipped the 2009 Ultimate Aero with a 15% increase in horsepower, a revamped front fascia design, and an array of important interior upgrades. The most substantial change is an SSC-designed, 1-piece billet aluminum engine block. A milestone for the limited-production automobile manufacturer, the new block improves structural integrity and oiling capabilities allowing SSC to boost the power output to 1287 horsepower while improving durability.

Armed with the more powerful new engine, the ’09 Ultimate Aero will be able to reach world-record speeds of 270 MPH, raising the benchmark for supercars and pushing the limits of current production car technology. In order to accommodate the ’09 Ultimate Aero’s unique fuel system requirements, SSC turned to American company Aeromotive to develop a flawless system. The aggressive nose is redesigned with enhanced aerodynamics to accommodate the 2009 Ultimate Aero’s higher top speed, and carbon fiber louvers on the side intakes draw in an additional 20% of air into the radiators for improved cooling. The improvement in overall performance will widen the already sizeable gap between the Ultimate Aero and its competitors. The ’09 Ultimate Aero also introduces the AeroBrakeTM a rear spoiler system that deploys under braking situations. Finished in carbon fiber, the rear spoilers actuate up an additional 8″ when the brake pedal is depressed. The speed of the spoiler actuation is set by the amount of brake pedal pressure. The complete AeroBrakeTM system can be disabled by the push of a button, for town driving or situations where braking and downforce assistance are not necessary.

Rounding out the ’09 Ultimate Aero’s improvements is a revamped interior. A redesigned dash prominently displays sleek, exposed carbon fiber dash halves and inset air vents. Carbon fiber accents run along the doorsills, surround the new gauge cluster, and continue onto a revised steering column, which includes an analog speedometer and tachometer with a sequential shift light integrated into the tachometer needle. The new center console incorporates a digital temperature control unit and tire pressure monitor along with an Azentek PC base Infotainment unit. The revolutionary Azentek unit offers all the capabilities of a PC and processes SSC’s onboard diagnostic software.

SSC already owns the Guinness World Record for the fastest car in world with its Ultimate Aero hitting a top speed of 257mph. Well they are now working on new milestone with the Ultimate Aero EV. That’s right – SSC is working on a electric version of the Ultimate Aero with a main goal to built the world’s fastest green supercar.

The drive train for the Ultimate Aero EV is still under development. Power is expected to come from a 500-hp electric motor – but SSC is also exploring the idea of adding twin 500-hp electric motors for a total of 1,000-hp in a 2 or 4-wheel-drive configuration.

Engineering details are yet to be released but SSC says they hope to have the first prototype ready by February 2009.

We just hope it gets more than 1 mile per charge.
