Jay Leno test drives Spyker C8 Laviolette LM85

Spyker plans on building only 24 units of the Spyker C8 Laviolette LM85 and Jay Leno was lucky enough to have driven one. Here is the man himself giving us his take on what it feels likes to drive a Spyker C8 Laviolette LM85.

While every Spyker C8 Laviolette LM85 owner receives a special edition Spyker Chronoswiss 24H Pilot Watch with orange crocodile strap, we doubt Leno got one just for test-driving it.

Refresher: The Spyker C8 Laviolette LM85 is powered by an Audi 4.2L V8 engine producing 400-hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to a Synchromesh 6-Speed Transaxle, Getrag manual gearbox that transfers all that power to the wheels.

Imagine walking into a Saab dealerships and seeing a Spyker supercar for sale. Well, that’s soon to become a reality as Spyker Cars plans to double the number of dealers selling its supercars this year by offering them at Saab showrooms.

“We are signing up Spyker dealerships left, right and center,” Chief Executive Officer Victor Muller said.

Muller said that Spyker will increase its dealer network to 60 from 35 in 2010. By the end of 2011, Spyker plans to have its supercars available at 90 dealers.

“Spyker will be profitable in its own right, very much helped by its sister Saab,” Muller said. “It”s wonderful that the company that saved Saab is also benefiting from having done that in its own business.”

Muller said that Spyker also plans on tapping into Saab’s engineering resources to save cost.

Spyker has unveiled its new Spyker C8 Laviolette LM85 here at the 2008 LA Auto Show. The car is a limited-edition road-going version of the Spyker C8 Laviolette GT2R. The mid-engine two-seat sports car will only see a limited production of 24 units that will carry an aluminum chassis, side mirrors in body color, carbon fiber rear-spoiler, GT2 windscreen streamer, black powder coated alloy-wheels and AP Racing 6-piston brake calipers. Inside, Spyker added black leather and alcantra and it finished with orange stitching and black floor mats with the LM85 logo embroidered.

All 24 owners will receive a Spyker Chronoswiss 24H Pilot watch with an orange crocodile strap. The serial number of your LM85 will be engraved on the case of the watch.
