Scion has unveiled the 2012 xD Release Series 4.0 (xD RS 4.0) and xB Release Series 9.0 (xB RS 9.0) models. The two limited-production models will be headed to dealerships next month.

The 2012 xD Release Series 4.0 (xD RS 4.0) is available exclusively in a premium Blizzard Pearl exterior paint and rides on 16-inch alloy wheels that are finished in a smoked platinum color. The interior gets color-tuned trim pieces on the center console, steering wheel and door panels. The seats are also wrapped in a distinctively patterned soft-touch material and get white stitching. Of course you get some special floor mates and cargo mats with the RS logo and an individually numbered badge. Prices for the 2012 xD RS 4.0 start at $16,250 with a manual and $17,050 with an automatic.

The 2012 xB Release Series 9.0 comes exclusively in a Hot Lava exterior with a honeycomb patterned lower grille that cleverly incorporates the ‘SCION’ name. A cool feature is the illumination of the Scion badges on the front and back upon remotely locking or unlocking the doors. Inside, the xB RS 9.0 gets perforated synthetic suede front and rear seat covers that feature the Scion logo and Hot Lava color-tuned highlights.

Scion will only build 1,500 units of the xB RS 9.0 with prices starting at $18,110 for the manual and $19,060 for the automatic.

Separately, Scion said that all 2012 Scion models will come standard with a new Pioneer audio system that features Bluetooth hands-free, Bluetooth streaming audio and HD Radio technology.

Toyota announced Wednesday that the 2012 Scion xD will start with a price tag of $15,345 for a 5-speed manual transmission.

Prices are up $235 from last year, as this year’s model comes with more standard features, which include streaming audio, Bluetooth, and HD radio.

A six-speed sound system will also be included with the xD, that features a personalized welcome screen. A premium option is available that comes with a 5.8 inch touch-screen, all part of keeping the young buyers market appeal of the model.

No changes have been made to the body style or under the hood. Power still comes from a 1.8 liter 4-cylinder engine with dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) making 128 horsepower.

Other standard features will be keyless entry, a/c, tire-pressure monitoring, cruise control, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and a tilt steering wheel.

Interested? The Scion xD will be available in dealerships as of October.

Toyota said today that it will be increasing U.S. pricing on most of its vehicles ranging from 1.2 percent to 2.2 percent. The increase extends across the Toyota, Lexus and Scion brands and takes effect in May. The announcement comes as Toyota largely remains shut down in Japan after the massive March 11 earthquake.

The price increases will start with cars built in North America in May and for imported cars that are ordered from Japan in May.

Buyers will see price increases ranging from $200 for the Toyota Yaris hatchback and $900 for the Toyota Land Cruiser and Sequoia. The 2011 Scion xD receives an MSRP increase of $65 or 0.4 percent. The Lexus price adjustments range from $600 for the GX 460 to $900 for the IS-F, LS sedans, GS 450h and the LX 570.

The only 2011 models that won’t see a price increase include the Tacoma, Yaris sedan, Scion tC, Scion xB, Lexus CT 200h and the Lexus LFA.

Despite three years of disappointing sales and somewhat boring vehicles, Toyota’s Scion has no plans of shutting the doors, says Toyota Motor President Akio Toyoda.

“There is no concern, no danger for Scion in the future,” Toyoda said at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show on Monday.

Numbers state otherwise as Scion’s U.S. sales fell 21 percent last year to 45,678 units. The brand sold a whopping 130,181 units in the United States in 2007 and a record 173,024 in 2006. What’s the reason? Apparently since Scion’s target group is younger than 30, the brand is suffering as the recession left many unemployed and unable to buy a vehicle.

“I am one of the test-drivers within Toyota,” Toyda said. “I have a preoccupation with vehicles that have great emotional excitement, and Scion can bring that sort of excitement to the fore.”

Your thoughts on his statement? Let us know in the comments section after the jump.
