The Porsche Panamera is the subject of yet another tuning project. This time, Edo Competition is boasting a 700hp version of the four-door.

Upgrades to the turbochargers, exhaust manifold, catalytic converters, air filters, and ECU combine to make the 150hp gain, along with an additional 96 lb-ft of torque. This puts the total power output at 700 horsepower and 649 lb-ft of torque, giving the Panamera a 0-62 mph time of just 3.5 seconds, a .2 second shave off the stock version, with a top speed of 211mph.

Check out more news on the Porsche Panamera.

Edo also dropped the body by 30mm all around, and sticking it to the pavement is a set of 22-inch carbon-fiber finish wheels, wrapped in a wider set of rubber.

In addition, Edo Competition is offering plenty of interior upgrade options for the Porsche, and an exterior package.

The Porsche Panamera has been given a wide-body kit as part of Hamann’s latest tuner.

As the focus of the tuner, the new aerodynamic kit features a unique rear diffuser, and a bigger rear wing. The whole package adds 60mm on both ends of the car. A new set of wheels have been added in Forged Gunmetal, sized at 9.5×22, with 265/30ZR22 tires in the front. The rear gets 305/25ZR22 tires to wrap the 11.0×22 inch wheels. Inside, leather and Alcantara options are available, along with a set of aluminum pedals and piano lacquer for the trim.

Click here for more news on the Porsche Panamera.

A lowering module is provided by Hamman that drops the Porsche by 30mm all around. In terms of performance, Hamann also increased the output by 79-hp (total of 579-hp) and 88.5 lb-ft of torque (total of 605 lb-ft).

Our take? Just another toy you’ll see driving around in Dubai.

Press Release:

Passion, performance and luxury catering for the most exacting demands: Panamera Turbo S

Stuttgart. With its new top model in the Gran Turismo model line, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is raising the bar for sporty four-door cars in the luxury class by yet another notch. The new Panamera Turbo S is a unique combination of performance and efficiency, driving dynamics and comfort. The 4.8 litre, V8 biturbo charged engine delivers 550 hp (410 kW), ten percent or 50 hp (37 kW) more than the already very powerful engine in the Panamera Turbo. By the same token, the torque also increases from 700 to 750 Nm. In the “Sport” and “Sport Plus” mode of the standard Sport Chrono Package Turbo and during kick-down in normal mode, the eight cylinder engine delivers fully 800 Nm with the so-called overboost function.

The power pack is behind the new top-of-the-range Panamera’s record sprint times. Thanks to Launch Control, 100 km/h (62 mph) is reached in 3.8 seconds; the top speed is 306 km/h (191 mph). Despite the increased performance, fuel consumption remains at the moderate level of the Panamera Turbo – yet another example of “Porsche Intelligent Performance”. In the NEDC the Gran Turismo covers 100 kilometres (62 miles) on 11.5 litres of fuel. Fuel consumption falls to 11.3 litres per 100 km (25 mpg imp.) when fitted with the 19 inch, all-season tyres with optimised rolling resistance developed for the Panamera by Michelin.

The increased performance compared with the Panamera Turbo can be attributed to two main enhancements: Improved turbochargers with titanium-aluminium turbine wheels and modified engine control. The use of the innovative titanium-aluminium alloy reduces the weight of the turbine and compressor wheel. This results in a lower moment of inertia and thus in improved and more agile engine responsiveness.

Even for a top luxury class model, Porsche’s new top-of-the-range Panamera boasts an extraordinarily comprehensive equipment level. In keeping with the sporty concept of the high-performance Panamera, it features the most important driving dynamics control systems as standard. For example, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), an active roll stabilisation system, nips in the bud the vehicle’s tendency to lean when cornering, thus enhancing agility and comfort in equal measure. Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) applies a variable torque split to the rear wheels combined with an electronically controlled rear differential lock, thus ensuring superior traction and therefore greater agility in every driving situation. The steering system uses the speed-dependent Servotronic. The Sport Chrono Package Turbo, which tunes the suspension and power unit, making them even sportier by pressing the additional “Sport Plus” button, is also fitted as standard, as is the sports exhaust system for an even more emotional engine sound.

The sporty character of the new Panamera Turbo S is apparent not just in its performance but is also reflected on the exterior. The 20-inch Turbo II wheels with increased rear axle track width, side skirts from the Porsche Exclusive range and the adaptive extending four-way rear spoiler in the exterior colour ensure particularly sporty performance and look. The fusion of exclusivity and sportiness is conveyed in the interior by the bi-colour leather finish, fitted as standard. The new combination of black/cream is offered exclusively for the new Panamera Turbo S with agate grey/cream also being added as an exclusive combination from the autumn.

While in Sport Plus mode, the Panamera Turbo can go from 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds 0.1 seconds faster than the production model. Top speed is increased to 190 mph from 188 mph.

Pricing for the extra 40-hp that you may or may not really need? $21,730 and sales will start in November 2010 through Porsche Tequipment.

Swiss tuning house Sportec has unveiled a two stage performance upgrade for the Porsche Panamera Turbo.

The stage one kit uses a reconfigured ECU that takes output to a “dyno-proven” 560-hp and 576 lb-ft of torque – an increase of 67-hp and 60 lb-ft over the standard Panamera Turbo. That allows 0-62 mph to come in 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 190 mph. The second stage conversion adds a cat-back stainless-steel sports exhaust system with 3.5-inch tailpipes. Power is increased to 575-hp and 598 lb-ft of torque. 0-62 mph comes in 3.8 seconds with a top speed of 190 mph.

As far as pricing goes, the Sportec stage one is priced to the equivalent of $4,600 while the stage two upgrade will run you $12,700. Personally, we’re not sure if an extra $8,100 is worth it for the stage two kit since you only knock off .1 seconds of your 0-62 time. Either way, it’s your call.

Press Release:

New Model Year: Even More Efficient and with New Options for the Gran Turismo

Porsche Panamera Now Even More Efficient

Stuttgart. The eight-cylinder Panamera models are entering the next model year as of August 2010 with an even higher standard of all-round efficiency and new options. Particularly the new brake energy recuperation system featured as standard, together with optional 19-inch all-season tyres offering reduced roll resistance, give the Panamera Turbo a further improvement of fuel consumption by 0.9 litres/100 km. As a result, the 500-horsepower top model now consumes just 11.3 litres instead of formerly 12.2 litres/100 km in the New European Driving Cycle, equal to 25.0 mpg imp (formerly 23.2 mpg imp) and a reduction of CO2 emissions by 21 grams per kilometre. The Panamera S and Panamera 4S now making do with just 10.3 ltr/100 km and, respectively, 10.6 ltr/100 km (equal to 27.4 and, respectively, 26.7 mpg imp in the NEDC), are likewise up to half a litre more efficient per 100 kilometres (equal to minus 11 grams CO2/km).

This increase in efficiency results primarily from brake energy recuperation, with the battery being charged primarily during application of the brakes and, respectively, in overrun. When accelerating, on the other hand, the field current in the alternator is reduced, minimising the load acting on the combustion engine since it is now required to deliver even less energy for charging the battery, instead making this energy available for even faster acceleration. In conjunction with further improvements, this battery charging strategy on the Panamera Turbo saves no less than 0.7 litres on 100 kilometres, while newly developed, optional all-season tyres measuring 19 inches in diameter likewise serve to reduce fuel consumption by another 0.2 ltr/100 km on each model in the Panamera range. Together with the enhanced tread of the tyres, a special rubber compound serves to reduce roll resistance while at the same time increasing the mileage covered by the tyres. The Auto Start Stop function has also been optimised, now allowing the driver to set off again even faster and more comfortably after coming to a halt.

Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) now available as an option together with Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) and a fully controlled rear axle differential lock enhances the driving qualities of the Panamera V8 models. PTV Plus optimises steering behaviour by intervening in the brakes on the inner rear wheel in a bend and generating an additional rotational force acting in the same direction as the steering wheel. The result is even more direct and dynamic steering when entering a bend ““ and at the same time PTV Plus, in conjunction with the rear axle differential, improves traction on the rear wheels when accelerating out of a bend on the road.

As a further highlight, Porsche is extending the range of paintwork colours, leather options and special equipment for the Panamera. As an example, the Gran Turismo is now also available with auxiliary heating and a three-spoke sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles on cars equipped with PDK Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe. Three-dimensional presentation of maps by the further improved, optional navigation system may now also be combined with a satellite image for even more realistic presentation and enhanced orientation. Even traffic lane information is provided in this way for complex road junctions in Europe and the USA. And last but not least, the speed limit indicator so far covering only the Autobahn, motorway and interstate now also comprises ““ depending on the database material ““ main roads and major routes leading out of town.

Porsche Cars North America announced today that it sold a total of 1,747 units in April 2010, a decline of 6 percent compared to the same period last year when it sold 1,853 units.

“Despite the overall decline, Porsche”s new four-door Panamera recorded its best-ever one-month sales of 678,” Porsche said in a statement. “To date, Porsche has sold 3,410 Panamera models in the U.S. since it went on sale in October 2009.”

That makes the new four-door Panamera Porsche’s best-selling model in the U.S. so far this year.

Porsche said that its April sales decline is due to the anticipated and effective sell off of its 2010 Cayenne models earlier this year in preparation for the all-new, 2011 Cayenne. The new 2011 Cayenne S, Turbo models will go on sale in July, while the Cayenne and Cayenne S Hybrid models will be available this fall.

When you’re shopping for a car in the $90,000 to a $100,000 range, what kind of fuel-economy the car gets is probably the last thing on your mind to help you make your decision on whether to purchase the car or not. However, it may be nice to know that your car rates at the top of its class when it comes to EPA fuel-economy ratings.

Porsche has just announced that the EPA ratings for its new Panamera put the car at the top of its class. The 400-hp V8 and the PDK transmission in the Panamera S and Panamera 4S help the four-door average an EPA fuel-economy rating of 16/24 mpg (city/highway) – that’s 19 mpg combined.

Go for the more powerful 500-hp Panamera Turbo and the EPA rating drops by one to 15/23 mpg, or 18 combined.

While the starting price tag of $89,800 may be a little steep, at least you’ll be avoiding the gas-guzzler tax.
