The 10 year anniversary of Porsche’s Leipzig plant is being celebrated with a production milestone of 100,000 second generation Cayenne.

“Ten years ago the success story of Porsche Leipzig startet,” said Wolfgang Leimgruber, Member of the Executive Board of Production and Logistics of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG. “What was a greenfield site, today ranks among the most modern car plants in the world. In addition to the Cayenne, Leipzig is also where Porsche produces the very successful Panamera luxury saloon, approximately 70,000 units of which have now rolled off the production line. That is why more than 93,800 vehicles left the Porsche plant in Leipzig in 2011, more than in any year before,”

The 100,000 pure white Porsche Cayenne with a V8 unit is on its way to Brazil.

It has just been confirmed by Porsche that the U.S. is getting two new models, to follow behind the 911 Carrera Cabriolet’s upcoming premier at next week’s 2012 Detroit Auto Show.

Already available in Europe, the Cayenne Diesel will be powered by a slightly faster version of the motor found in the TDI variants of the Volkswagen Touareg and Audi Q7. With 15-hp over the Q7 at 240hp, the 406 lb-ft of torque still remains the same on the 3.0-liter V6.

As for the Cajun, expect to see the Porsche share much of its existence with the Audi Q5. Production of the Porsche Cajun will begin in 2013.

TopCar has crafted a special edition of its Porsche Cayenne Vantage 2 body kit called the Carbon Edition. Take that literally, as the entire body kit has been made over in bare carbon fiber.

The Russian tuner debuted the car at the Top Line 2011 exhibition, with a kit that includes fender flairs, side skirts, front and rear bumpers, hood, and liftgate and roof spoilers. The rest of the body is coated in grey paint.

Inside, the Cayenne II has been heavily modified with only carbon fiber components.

Starting with the Cayenne Turbo motor, Topcar included a remapped ecu, a sports exhaust system and air filter, a light set of wheels, and Brembo breaks for stopping power.

The Porsche Cayenne aesthetic pill is still a tough one swallow in my opinion. But if you’re a fan of the oddly shaped SUV with a confused personality, Vorsteiner now has a new tuning kit for the Cayenne.

Called the Vorsteiner V-CT kit, it features several new body parts such as a new front and rear bumper, a carbon-fiber front and rear spoiler, a rear diffuser and side skirts.

The kit will be available for all Cayenne models, including the Hybrid. Also included in the package is an upgraded titanium exhaust waste disposal complete with quad-pipes. And to complete the package, Vorsteiner fitted their own special multispoke forged alloys.

Pricing and release date have yet to be announced as this is just a quick preview.

Techart’s Porsche Panamera Turbo kit also includes Techart turbos and air filter, and bring the motor up to a power output of 630-hp, with 649 lb-ft of torque.

If you’ve been MIA for the last month, you’ve missed out on the fact that there is a new British luxury car company in town by the name of Eterniti Motors. The company will be showing its first concept, a ‘super-SUV’ at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show next week. Eterniti Motors has already released a sketch and a teaser shot (here and here) – today the company is dropping the first three images of the concept, showing us the side profile and the back.

Known as the Hemera Concept, the model is expected to enter production in 2012. It will be hand-built in London and will feature a “limousine-like rear cabin, including twin electric reclining seats, iPads and a drinks chiller, giving customers the option of being chauffeured as well as driving.”

While Eterniti Motors still has to released full details of the technical specs of the Hemera, it did say that it will produce 620-hp and will have a top speed of more than 180 mph.

Our take: Judging by the images, Eterniti Motors is just taking a Porsche Cayenne and adding its own touch to it.

There are always tuning firms that really go the extra mile and most of the time, the efforts put out to tune expensive cars can be a hit or miss. For example, the Porsche Cayenne was a car I thought that had aesthetics that were just as confusing as its purpose. And what Germany’s Lumma Design makes of a Porsche Cayenne is something that is just downright berserk… in a good way.

Lumma Design just released their latest tuning kit for the current Porsche SUV. It’s called the CLR 558 GT body kit, which sounds just as interesting as a bowl of pea soup but it’s definitely a lot more appealing than that.

Consisting of the usual, revised front bumpers with air intakes, a front spoiler with quad fogs, rear bumper with an integrated diffuser, a rear spoiler, side skirts, and pronounced wheel arches, it’s more of a reconstruction rather than a shot Botox.

Add a suspension lowered by 1.5 inches, a custom exhaust system and a reworked interior, you have the black-and-white Porsche Cayenne CLR 558 GT. Oh, I forgot to mention that it also has 22-inch wheels.

Press Release:

White pepper – Porsche Cayenne II by LUMMA Design

The Porsche Cayenne II is the logical continuation of its precedent model named Cayenne I with even cosmetic corrections, as e.g. the “takeover” of the headlamps looking like those of the Panamera, which, by the way also remembers the interior. The model No. II is a bit longer, increasing the wheelbase, with about 180 kg (400 lb.) less of weight, having nevertheless still about two metric tons.

The traditional tuning factory LUMMA Design from Winterlingen, Germany, presents with its interpretation of the new Cayenne, a SUV with conscious car body kit named CLR 558 GT, consisting in a spoiled front bumper with air inlet frames, which can be found together with diffusers on the rear bumper, front and rear wheel arch enlargements and side sills with door supports. Furthermore, there is an installation kit for fog lamps, optionally available in LED technics. The engine bonnet with its lateral air outlets is made of weight optimizing carbon/Kevlar.

Furthermore, LUMMA offers additional longish shaped daylight lamps, a rear spoiler lip in carbon or matching the paint work colored, an up to 40 mm (1 1/2 in.) lowering module for air suspended vehicles and a complete sports exhaust system with central 3-part stainless steel end pipe and sportive sound and, nevertheless only for export, adapted pre-muffler (only together with the mentioned above car body kit). Before describing the interior lets have a look at the multipart wheels in 10×22 in. rear and in front, with colored outer tire beds and tires in 295/30-22 including wheel spacing kit all around.

When opening the door, the two part aluminum pedals set for throttle and braking controls (all models with tiptronic) with milled foot pedals and integrated anti-slip rubber nobs are catching the eyes, the equally equipped with these anti-slip rubber nobs aluminum foot rest matching to them, as also the four part door sill panel set with illuminated LUMMA logo, for all models. The foot mat set with real leather bordering and the kick plate in real black leather decorate the LUMMA emblem. In the luggage compartment a trunk mat with loading edge protection and real black leather bordering catch equally attention, because here also is to be seen the already mentioned logo.

By this Porsche Cayenne II, the LUMMA team shows once more its known by precision craftmanship, because good traditions oblige. It may be mentioned that actually, the Winterlinger cars tuner develops diverse detail solutions for interior modifications of the Cayenne. Furthermore, at the instance of the 25th company anniversary of LUMMA, until the end of 2011, there will be put on wheels a suitable to this event “Jubilee Cayenne Edition”. There won’t be betrayed any details, but one may be justifiably curious about …

Many of you many think Porsche and Lamborghini as supercar competitors – well, you’d be wrong. Both brands are from different ends of the spectrum but may soon be joining forces on share platforms.

According to a new report, Porsche is providing Lamborghini with a new platform that will underpin its 4×4 SUV model and Estoque sedan models. As Porsche moves to finalize its merger with Volkswagen Group owned Lamborghini, we’ll see many collaborations such as this one here.

Insiders suggest that Italian automaker plans on using the Porsche Cayenne platform for its 4×4 SUV model and the Porsche Panamera platform for the Lamborghini Estoque sedan.

“Ferrari can’t follow into this market, because it has no links to SUVs at all,” a source said. “Lamborghini is entirely credible as an SUV maker, but it can’t do it alone. And as Porsche has shown it already knows how to do it, it makes sense to work together.”

Porsche has announced some nice upgrades for the 2012 Porsche Cayenne lineup – mainly focusing on the Porsche Cayenne Diesel and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo.

First time at egmCarTech? Visit our home page for the latest news.

First up – the 2012 Porsche Cayenne Diesel gets even more efficient, some weight saving and a little increase in performance. Power still comes from a 3.0L V6 engine but a new efficient turbo pushes output to 245-hp. That allows the 2012 Porsche Cayenne Diesel to average an impressive 32 mpg in U.S. terms. 0 to 62 mph has been cut to 7.6 seconds (a reduction of 0.2 seconds) while top speed has been increased to 137 mph.

The 2012 Porsche Cayenne Turbo now comes with a power kit that increases output to 540-hp with a maximum torque of 553 lb-ft. That allows it to run from 0 to 62 mph in 4.6 seconds (improvement of 0.1 seconds) with a top speed of 176 mph.

Press Release:

Cayenne Diesel with new engine: even more economical

Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is launching the Cayenne and Panamera model lines into the new model year with detailed improvements, additions and new options. First up is the Cayenne Diesel, with its second generation engine for even more efficiency. The three litre V6 retains the same bore and displacement but now delivers 245 hp (180 kW), 5 hp (3.7 kW) more than before, while consuming only 7.2 litres of diesel per 100 km (39 mpg imp.). At the same time, CO2 emissions have dropped six grams to 189 g/km. That puts the Cayenne Diesel back in pole position as the most economical Cayenne with the lowest carbon emissions. Naturally, the greater power has a knock-on effect on performance as well. For example, the acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) has been cut to 7.6 seconds (minus 0.2 seconds) with top speed up two to 220 km/h (137 mph).

The improvements have been achieved through a package of measures, from the use of new materials to reduce weight, lower frictional resistance to a revamp of the injection system, along with a new turbocharger and enhanced thermal management. In detail, the crankshaft for example has been redesigned; fewer counterweights and hollow bores make it lighter and thus more free-revving than before. Direct injection pressure increased by 200 to a maximum of 2000 bar, with a direct impact on the quality of mixture formation. The variable geometry turbocharger is also a new design with optimised bearings and a new compressor wheel, which translates into improved response and greater efficiency. The package of measures also sliced 20 kilograms off the weight of the V6 engine, cutting the unladen weight of the Cayenne Diesel to 2080 kilograms.

Improvements to the Cayenne S Hybrid as well: It offers even more specific driving experiences thanks to modifications to the hybrid manager. If the conditions are right, it is now possible even from a cold start to drive and manoeuvre at low speed on electric power alone. Previously, driving and manoeuvring on electric power after starting the engine was only possible once the operating temperature had been reached.

The new model year also heralds the availability of new Porsche Exclusive options for the Cayenne models. As with the Panamera Turbo, a power kit is now on offer for the Cayenne Turbo as well, boosting the maximum power by 40 (29 kW) to 540 hp (397 kW). Maximum torque increases to 750 Nm. Performance also improves to 4.6 seconds (minus 0.1 s) for the sprint from 0 to 100 km (62 mph) and to a top speed of 281 km/h (176 mph). Fuel consumption and emissions remain unchanged: Even with the optional power kit, the Cayenne gets by on 11.5 litres per 100 kilometres (24.6 mpg imp.) in the NEDC, or 270 g/km CO2.

The increased power is partly achieved by two new turbochargers with titanium- aluminium turbine wheels and adjustments to the engine electronics, resulting in yet further perceptible improvements in the engine’s response. The greater power is not without consequences for the braking system. The cooling of the brakes has been further improved and the optional Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) provides deceleration courtesy of larger front brake discs, now with 420 millimetre diameter. An optional 20 inch collapsible spare wheel is available for vehicles equipped with this system.

In addition to the Bi-Xenon main headlights in black including Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) and quad sports tailpipe look, other Porsche Exclusive options for the Cayenne’s exterior for the first time feature tinted LED rear lights.

For the Cayenne’s interior, Porsche Exclusive is also offering numerous new options for visual customisation for the coming model year, for example new decorative stitching and leather packages as well as the precious wood, Yachting Mahogany.

The offering is rounded off by the milled aluminium Tiptronic-S gear selector and new stainless steel and carbon door entry guards.

The range of options for the Panamera model line has also been enhanced. The Lane Change Assist system adapted from the Cayenne will be available from autumn 2011. It monitors the area behind and to the side of the vehicle as well as the blind spot and informs the driver via a signal in the exterior mirror if the system has located another vehicle in the adjacent lane. The Lane Change Assist system can be activated by a switch on the driver’s door and operates between 30 and 250 km/h (19 and 156 mph).

New Porsche Exclusive options for the Panamera exterior are Bi-Xenon main headlights in black including Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) as well as a redesigned sports tailpipe. An additional novelty is the “wireless Internet access” option. From June 2011 onwards this will allow you to go online in the Panamera.

Diesels are becoming increasingly popular here in the United States. So much so that Porsche is considering selling diesel variants of the Cayenne SUV and the Panamera sedan here on the stateside, it’s largest single market. At the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Porsche is expected to unveil a diesel and Panamera Hybrid.

According to Bernhard Maier, the brand’s sales and marketing chief, the models will help Porsche to meet demand for fuel-efficient cars that is growing among luxury car shoppers.

“We are discussing internally if we should introduce the Cayenne diesel in the U.S. this year. Also a Panamera diesel is an option,” Maier told Automotive New Europe. “We will make a decision soon.”

The Porsche Cayenne diesel has been selling in Europe since early 2009. Last year, Porsche introduced a Cayenne Hybrid in Europe and the United States.
