If the Porsche 911 Turbo wasn’t fast enough to begin with, the automaker is kicking power up even further with an all new tri-turbo system.

The horizontally opposed 3.8-liter six-cylinder is currently fitted with a twin-turbo, and the next generation 991 is being used in the last stage of development for the new tri that will replace it.

Patent applications reveal that the next turbo will be similar to the current larger twin-turbo, in conjunction with a smaller unit to help cut turbo lag on the low-end. The three components combined will boost overall power output, improve linear delivery at low revs, and will likely bring down fuel costs.

While no specs have been released, it is likely that the next generation will put out roughly 525hp, matching the 911 Turbo S model.

The 911 GT2 and the next GT2 RS are both likely to be fitted with the tri-turbo, as well.

We’re not sure what Porsche engineers were doing in downtown San Francisco with a bunch of Porsche prototypes – but we want their job… now.

The Porsche 911 Turbo is no stranger to top speed and a quick 0 to 62 mph time. But TechArt has always believed that enough is never enough. The German tuner’s latest efforts focus on a new performance package for the current 911 Turbo (not the 2012 model year 911).

TechArt’s TA 097/T3 conversion kit for the 911 Turbo includes an installation of a sport air filter, new manifolds, the VTG turbo chargers, high performance intercoolers along with an ECU upgrade.

Click here for more news on the Porsche 911.

That allows the 500-hp Porsche 911 Turbo to pump out a heart-stopping 700-hp with a maximum torque of 649 lb-ft.

That allows the TechArt Porsche 911 Turbo to run from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.8 seconds and 0 to 124 mph in just 9 seconds. Top speed comes in at a nice 219 mph.

Automotive enthusiasts often bond amongst their like. Two friends from Switzerland, however, may very well have their likeness coming between them.

One of the men did the other a favor by lending his friend his Porsche 911 turbo. The friend went for more than a typical joy ride. The 911′s trip should have ended back at its owner’s home, however, it ended up at the bottom of the Rhine river.

This is definitely an interesting way to put a friendship to the test.

Porsches are meant to be driven like they were stolen. Whether it’s bombing the Autobahn or your favorite race circuit, Porsche equipped some of its cars with racecar style center locking wheel-retention system to reduce weight and wheel flex. So the last thing you want to hear is that they’re being recalled.

A total of 1,702 Porsche 911s equipped with the center-locking hubs, which includes the 911 GT2 RS, the GT3 and GT3 RS, the 911 Turbo and Turbo S, are being recalled because the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that as they wear, the wheels could loosen.

“Over time, the hubs can wear prematurely,” said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. “As the hubs wear, the wheels could loosen, increasing the risk of a crash.”

Porsche also confirmed and announced that this is a small possibility but is only most likely with cars operating under racing conditions. For example, back in August of 2010, a German Porsche dealer that also sponsors racing teams in events at European racetracks notified Porsche AG of several cases where the center wheel hubs failed on three 911 Carrera GT3s during semiprofessional racing conditions. However, there are no reported cases during public road use, Porsche also said.

The Zuffenhausen make also responded by developing new components as well as improved instructions for use under racing conditions. Porsche dealers will replace the center-locking hubs and wheels with the improved design for free so if you are an owner of a Porsche with the center-locking wheel retention system, you can contact Porsche at 1-800-767-7243 for more information.

$217,100 is a lot to pay for any car, especially if it’s used. Well, some bloke ended up cashing out exactly that amount on eBay for soccer legend David Beckham’s custom built/matte-black 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet, which had been driven for 6,774 miles.

What’s so special about this Porsche besides the fact that Beckham owned it and Victoria Beckham sat in it?

The 2008 Porsche 911 turbo is fitted with blacked-out headlamps, black alloy wheels, a sports exhaust system and Beckham’s Los Angeles Galaxy jersey number (23) is stitched into the seats.

Food for thought: Prices for a brand new 2011 Porsche 911 Turbo start at $135,500.

speedART BTR-II 650 EVO

Of all the supercars available on the market, few have more prestige and few generate more excitement than Porsche 911 Turbos. Part of this excitement is its adaptability- 911 Turbos are usable day to day, and offer a more modest (though certainly objectively immodest) price point. That”s why there might be a market for speedART”s new cosmetic and performance kit for the 911 Turbo, called the BTR-II 650 EVO.

Externally, the BTR features an aerodynamic body kit, including a new front bumper and side skirts, rear diffuser, and a modified wing. A new sport suspension and 20-inch Light Spoke Competition provide both a new look and a performance upgrade.

The performance upgrades don”t end there, though: the 911 Turbo”s famed flat six taxes on new turbochargers, manifolds, and exhausts to produce 148 more hp and 110 lb-ft of torque more than the stock, putting the BTR at 641 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. Ridiculous numbers, these, and paired up with the beefed up PDK transmission, the new machine gets from 0-124 mph in under 9 second and maxes out at 208- crossing that all important 200 mark for supercars. If you”re lucky enough to own a Porsche 911 Turbo, make sure to count your blessings this season; if you can manage to get your hands on this tuning pack, you have quite a bit more counting to do. The pack is second-to-none, and any 911 Turbo owner with some extra money this holiday season owes it to themselves to consider this pack as a special holiday splurge.

Press Release:

speedART BTR-II 650 EVO based on Porsche 997 Turbo. The worldwide strongest 911 Turbo with an enforced PDK-gearbox.

The latest speedART “žBTR-II 650 EVO” (Bi-Turbo Racer, 2. generation with 650 hp and Evolution-body kit) is the worldwide strongest Porsche 997 Turbo with 650 hp and over 900Nm. Additional to the impressive power the BTR-II 650 EVO is the only Porsche with an enforced PDK-gearbox which is the qualification for an impeccable power transmission. These modifications are in particular the following conversions:

Power:
The power increase of 150 hp and 150 nm consists of a modified motronic to enlarge the power boost in combination with bigger VTG-turbo chargers, a sport exhaust with sport cats and twin tail pipes plus sport headers/manifolds, sport air filter and enlarged intercoolers for a better heat dissipation. The acceleration 0-200 km/h is just over 9 sec. and top speed over 335 km/h.

Power transmission:
For power upgrades over 900 Nm and 650 hp an enforced PDK is required. The multi-discs in the gearbox are enforced (standard are 6 rings for inner and outer multi-disc-packet. The enforced version has 8 rings for each packet). So the enhanced surface of the rings is able to put over 30% more torque from the engine to the wheels which is required especially while using launch control starts and race track performance. Therewith the BTR-II 650 EVO becomes a unique experience because it had never given a Porsche who shifted faster and stronger.

Body kit:
The body kit “BTR-II EVO” consists of a new designed front bumper with spoiler lip and gun-metal frames for more down force and better brake cooling (EVO-version), side skirts, rear diffuser and a rear spoiler with movable rear wing for an improved aerodynamic and more down force.

Wheels:
3-piece screwed forged wheel set type “žLSC FORGED = Light Spoke Competition” in 8,5″ and 12 x 20″ , in many different colours (for rim and center star) available. Tires: FA: 245/30 ZR 20″ and RA: 325/25 ZR20″.

Suspension:
Sportive and adjustable speedART sport suspension type “street race” incl. PASM function.

Interior:
- 340 mm sport steering wheel with F1 shift paddles for PDK
- enlargement of power boost display up to 1,8 bar
- carbon interior parts in many colours
- stitched interior parts and floor mates in many colours
- coloured safety seat belts
- coloured instrument dials

One of the 911″s most dividing characteristics is its signature, age-old design. Some laud the German brand for maintaining tradition, while others take a different viewpoint; Jeremy Clarkson, Top Gear’s main host, once commented that “Porsche has the laziest design team in the world.”

Well, to the (potential) delight of those in tune with Clarkson, Misha Design have released a body kit for the 997 911 Turbo. In addition, some of the parts also have performance advantages for the undisputedly awesome, legendary sports car.

The changes start at the hood, where the 911 gets a more flat front, punctuated with an elevated center, as normally seen on American muscle cars. This creates hood vanes, which help with intake and downforce. Carbon fiber blades can further sell the very rectangular look. On the back, carbon fiber diffusers and venture grills that come with the custom rear bumper help generate downforce while decreasing weight, making the car more nimble and maneuverable. The custom rear spoiler also adds downforce and can go up or down, for either downforce or max speed as required. The front of the car is lowered, which both adds a look of menace and removes some of the 911″s eminent practicality.

So, then, the verdict on this package is most decidedly out; leave your thoughts in the comments.

Press Release:

SPORTEC RETURNS TO SALON PRIVÉ EVENT WITH IMPROVED SPR1R SUPERCAR

Having stunned the motoring press and Salon Privé show goers last year with the UK premier of the SPR1, SPORTEC is set to debut a new, faster, lighter and improved version of the Swiss built supercar at this year’s event – the SPR1R.

Conceived, designed and constructed in Switzerland by SPORTEC’s technical team, the new version of the SPR1 offers unrivalled supercar performance and exclusivity, carrying over the 858PS bi-turbo, 3.6-litre, 24-valve, flat six T80M engine and permanent four wheel drive of the previous version.

Likewise the SPORTEC SPR1R’s specification includes the titanium connecting rods, a flat carbon fibre under floor, active suspension and F1 style ceramic brake discs of other SPR1 models, while the use of composite (carbon / Kevlar) body panels, forged alloy wheels, an integrated safety cage and ceramic brake discs allows the SPR1 to be lighter, safer and more dynamic than other cars in its class.

For 2010, the SPR1R boasts a number of detail improvements. Firstly, by concentrating on weight reduction across a variety of key components, SPORTEC’s technicians have managed to reduce the weight of the SPR1R by 50 kilograms, to a total of 1295 kilos.

This development makes the SPR1R one of the lightest supercars on the market (a Bugatti Veyron weighs 1990 kilos for comparison) and enhances the SPR1R’s power to weight ratio to a staggering 655 bhp per ton.

In addition, SPORTEC has added a driver adjustable traction control system, managed via a touch screen mounted in the centre console. This unit also doubles as a vehicle data logger and lap timer, which also allows owners to monitor key engine data in real time.

These combined improvements have yielded considerable performance benefits. While the 0-62mph (100kmh) time is unchanged at 3.0 seconds, the 300 kmh (186mph) increment arrives 0.9 seconds quicker than previously, highlighting the effectiveness of the changes. The quoted top speed of more than 236mph remains unaltered

Available in a choice of colours, the SPR1R boasts a number of exclusive SPORTEC styling and interior touches, including lightweight 20 inch forged alloy wheels, a carbon fibre rear wing and leather / alcantara interior.

Subtle, exclusive yet very useable and designed to deliver unrivalled performance, the 2010 SPR1R is designed to stay ahead of the supercar competition.

APS of Brackley is the UK concession for SPORTEC, and APS / SPORTEC is delighted that the 2010 SPR1R will be making its British debut at the prestigious Salon Privé show at London’s Hurlingham club, between 21st-23rd July.

Press Release:

Porsche Tequipment with Four New Highlights for Individual Retrofitting

Stuttgart. Four new retrofit highlights from Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, are dedicated entirely to the spirit of sporting performance. Particularly the 19-inch Sport Classic wheels in the unmistakable look of Porsche’s legendary Fuchs rims developed especially for the 911 Sport Classic built in a production run of just 250 units are an outstanding example of Porsche’s history and a striking design feature of the 911 Carrera.

Re-interpreted in individual style, the wheels in five-spoke design with the rim star painted black, the wheel hump in gloss-lathed finish, and the Porsche logo in colour on the wheel hub, are a genuine eye-catcher. Introduced by Porsche for the first time in 1966, these unique wheels are now making an outstanding come-back. The new wheels measure 8.5 J x 19 ET 55 and come together with tyres in 235/35 ZR 19 (front) and, respectively, 11.5 J x 19 ET 50 with tyres in 305/30 ZR 19 (rear) on all current all-wheel-drive models of the 911 Carrera and Targa as well as the 911 Turbo at an all-in price per set of Euro 5,569.20 including VAT (cars with tyre pressure control Euro 5,866.70).

Another particularly sporting feature is the three-spoke sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles for the PDK transmission already well known from the new 911 Turbo. Starting immediately, this unique leather steering wheel with gearshift paddles behind the right and left steering wheel spokes carried over from motorsport is available at a price of Euro 940.10 including VAT also for individual retrofitting on all versions of the 911, Boxster, Cayman, and Panamera with PDK and, starting in August 2010, on the new Cayenne with Tiptronic S.

The high-quality shift paddles are naturally made of metal. Through their stretched sickle shape, the gearshift paddles allow the driver to shift gears manually with perfect ease, from a wide range of individual holding positions on the steering wheel. The driver shifts up on the right and down on the left.

The newly developed Aerokit Cup available on all versions of the 911 Carrera Coupé shows a close and direct link to the fastest brand trophy in the world, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. At the front of the car the most outstanding feature is the new apron with its striking trim bars in the centre air intake and the characteristic spoiler lip. At the rear the unique rear lid with the wing fitted in position takes up the highly successful design of the former model. It almost goes without saying that all components have been optimised in Porsche’s wind tunnel to improve both driving behaviour and aerodynamics.

Already available on new cars at a price of Euro 4,968.25 including VAT, the Aerokit Cup may now also be retrofitted on current models of the 911. In this case the price from Porsche Tequipment is Euro 4,522.00 including VAT, plus fitting and paintwork.

While so far the Aerokit with its particularly sporting look was not available to drivers of the 911 Cabriolet and Targa (997), the new, striking Sport Design front apron now closes this gap, with the spoiler lip matched aerodynamically to the regular rear spoiler. Naturally, the new front panel also fits on all other versions of the 911 Carrera and 911 Targa in the 997 model series. Finished in the same colour as the car itself, the front apron in Sport Design blends harmoniously with the overall contours and silhouette of the 911.

The Aerokit retails on new cars at a price of Euro 2,368.10 including VAT and is available from Porsche Exclusive. It may also be retrofitted individually by Porsche Tequipment at a price of Euro 2,159.85 including VAT, plus the cost of fitting and paintwork.

Tuner TechArt has released two new performance upgrade packages for the new Porsche 911 Turbo with one package offering more than 600-hp.

The first package, known as TA 097/T1, increases output by 69-hp to 562-hp courtesy of a revised ECU and a high-flow air filter. That allows 0-62 mph to come in just 3.2 seconds with a top speed of 201 mph.

The second package, called the TA 097/T2 features new manifolds, a sport air filter, a custom exhaust and a reprogrammed ECU.
Press Release:

Technology and Art – TECHART World Premiere at the Geneva Motor-Show

Since 1974, this vehicle has been making the hearts of true sports car fans beat faster: the Porsche 911 Turbo ““ a masterpiece made of the finest materials and a symbol of top engineering and design. An almost-perfect sports car. Almost, because individuality and personality are essential elements in achieving perfection. TECHART automobile design stands for the creation of individual masterpieces for sports car enthusiasts looking to give their vehicle a touch of individual flair. The result is the TECHART personalization program for the new 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S models consisting of a new aerodynamic package, light metal wheels, and exquisite interiors will be presented in early March at the 80th international Motor-Show in Geneva, Switzerland.

Absolute performance ““ no compromises

The new Aerodynamic Kit I emphasizes the Turbo’s inner strengths without being excessive or overloaded. The sturdy RIM polyurethane exterior reduces aerodynamic lift on both axles, allowing smoother handling capability at extreme speeds. One striking feature is the front spoiler, with its dynamically-accented air intake valves and seamless integration. As your eyes pass to the side of the vehicle, you notice the airflow-optimizing side sills, which are stretched to make the vehicle seem to sit lower. A small roof spoiler on the Coupe elongates the visual appearance of the roof line. The spoiler profile can generate additional downforce with the extensible rear spoiler. Rounding off the modified back end is the diffuser, which extends the standard skirt downwards. Personalized mirror moldings add yet another sporty accent and enhance the unique TECHART appearance.

The same applies to the TECHART Aerodynamic Kit II. Independent front and rear spoilers optimize mass air flow for improved ventilation of the braking and intercooler systems. TECHART’s multifunctional daytime running lights are available for the front spoiler II. It combines daytime running lights, position illumination, sidelights, parking lights, and turn signals in a combined housing that fits seamlessly into the design of the vehicle front. The display brightness of the daytime running lights automatically adjusts to the selected daytime lighting setting. Furthermore, the daytime running lights dim automatically when either of the turning signals is active, in order to improve their visibility.

The high performance look and unmistakable TECHART design are also reflected in the wheel enhancements. Connecting the powerful torque of up to 700 Nm securely to the asphalt are the TECHART Formula light metal wheels, with their modern 5-spoke design. The product range includes TECHART Formula, Formula II, or filigree Formula III alloy-forged wheels in up to 20-inch formats. This classic form guarantees efficient heat diffusion and displays the braking system. For optimum road grip, TECHART recommends Conti Sport Contact 3 or tires of the brand Michelin Pilot Sport PS2.

In addition, TECHART’s Noselift System is also available for the new 911 Turbo. This makes problems with everyday obstacles a thing of the past for this vehicle. At the push of a button, ca. 60 mm of additional space can be created between the road and the front spoiler by lifting the vehicle height on the front axle. The hydraulic TECHART Noselift System is very reliable, easy to retrofit, and exhibits the everyday applicability you expect from TECHART.

Elegant TECHART interior designs

TECHART’s interiors for the new models are unmistakable: clear yet elegant, sporty yet comfortable, the cockpit, seats, doors, and roof make for a luxurious experience. These sporty enhancements please all the senses ““ smell and touch included. For instance, the interior could be completely outfitted with the finest leather. The TECHART 3-spoke sporty steering wheel, aluminum pedals, dials in individual colors, or stainless steel entry strips embossed with the TECHART logo are all installable options. For exteriors and interiors, TECHART knows how to engage the emotions ““ and please the senses.

Experience the TECHART personalization program yourself for the Porsche 911 Turbo and the 911 Turbo S at the Geneva Motor-Show from March 4″“14, 2010 at the TECHART Stand in Hall 2.

With a 3.8L turbocharged flat-6 boxer engine, the 500-hp 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo is already an impressive sports car. What makes it more impressive is the PDK 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that allows it to go from 0-60 mph in just 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 194 mph.

Well, speedArt felt it could make the 2010 911 Turbo (w/ PDK) a little more aggressive by adding some performance modifications and changing the name to BTR II 580.

After all is said and done, speedART’s BTR II 580 increases output by 80 horses for a total of 580-hp. That allows the 2010 911 turbo to go from 0-62 mph (0-60 mph should come in 3 seconds) in 3.2 seconds with a top speed of 201 mph.
