About Years ago, the Jaguar XJ220 set a production-car lap record at the famous Nurburgring track in Germany.

However, Jaguar today says that it has built the fastest pussycat it has ever produced – the Jaguar XKR-S. Powered by a 5.0 liter supercharged V8 making 550-hp with a maximum torque of 502 lb-ft of torque, the Jaguar XKR-S goes from 0 to 60 mph comes in 4.2 seconds with a top speed of 186 mph.

So can it hold up to the Jaguar XJ220? EVO Magazine decided to find out.

The Nissan GT-R is undoubtedly a performance icon. And to maintain that, the Japanese brand is making sure that their halo car remains blazingly fast for a relatively affordable price.

That said, a new video was released featuring the revised 2013 (2012 in Japan) GT-R at Japan’s Sendai Hiland Raceway, completing a spring to 62 mph in 2.84 seconds. Blimey!

Refresher:  The 2013 Nissan GT-R is powered by a 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 engine in the 2013 GT-R now produced 545-hp, an increase of 15-hp over the 2012 GT-R, and torque has been pushed from 448 lb-ft to 463 lb-ft. The 2013 Nissan GT-R is will go on sale at select certified Nissan dealers in January 2012.

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Coupe hasn’t even made it to dealerships yet and GM is already releasing the drop top version of the car today in Los Angeles. Sales of the most power Chevrolet convertible ever will start in late 2012.

Like the ZL1 coupe, the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible is powered by a 6.2 liter supercharged LSA V8 making 580-hp with a peak torque of 556 lb-ft. Chevy says that’s enough to exceed the output of 2+2 convertibles of many performance icons, including the Aston Martin DB9 Volante and Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG. Of course it also beats the car’s closest (and most realistic competitor) the 2011 Ford Shelby G500 Convertible, which produced 550-hp.

Prices and other specifications will be revealed closer to launch date.

I absolutely despise traffic with a passion. It seems as every day that goes by there are more and more cars on the road causing huge congestions and delaying us to our destinations or even just not allowing us to open the throttle on our favorite weekend car.

Either way, here’s something to make you feel better. Even on the hottest track in the world, the Nurburgring, traffic jams occur.

The Cadillac ATS will go on sale late 2012 and will go into production next summer at GM’s Lansing Grand River plant, the same plant that builds the Cadillac CTS sedan, coupe and wagon.

Nissan Chief Vehicle Engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno presented the 2013 GT-R supercar at Japan’s Sugo International Race Circuit saying that it may be able to beat previous model year’s Nurburgring lap times.

The GT-R has been continually beating its previous times, with the 2011 model clocking in at 7:26.4 and the 2012 model year taking that time down to 7:24.22. For 2013, the Nissan GT-R is expected to run a Nurburgring lap time of less than 7:20.

“We have a car that has the potential to go from 0-100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in under 3 seconds, lap the Nurburgring in less than 7 minutes 20 seconds, and cruise at speeds of 300 kilometers per hour (186 mph),” said Mizuno. “But what makes the GT-R today is that you can drive it on the autobahn at speeds like that with a degree of comfort.”

We’re not really sure about what will power the new Cadillac ATS but rumors suggest an all-new 2.0 liter Ecotec turbo engine making between 270-hp and 280-hp will be a part of the lineup. The ATS-V is speculated to be powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 making around 380-hp.

Sales of the Cadillac ATS will start next year. It will go into production next summer at GM’s Lansing Grand River plant, the same plant that builds the Cadillac CTS sedan, coupe and wagon.

The quarter mile run takes the McLaren MP4-12C  10.9 seconds at 134 mph. Stopping from 62 mph can happen in 100 feet. Price start at $231,400.

Most company’s President and CEO meet at the golf course to discuss business or get acquainted with each other – well, things are done a little different in the automotive industry.

Aston Martin’s CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez and Toyota’s President and CEO Akio Toyoda recently met up at the famous Nurburgring track to test drive each other cars. Which cars you ask? Toyota handed Bez the keys to the Lexus LFA while Aston Martin gave Toyoda the keys to the new V12 Zagato. Both cars were in race spec.

After going under the auction block at a recent Barrett-Jackson event and hitting up the Nurburgring with a lap time of 7:41.27, the new Chevrolet Camaro is being put under a series of extreme testing by GM engineers.

Chevy made some enhancements to the the Camaro ZL1 Convertible to keep a stiff body structure including, a tower-to-tower brace under the hood, a transmission support reinforcement brace, underbody tunnel brace and adding a front ‘X’ brace and stiffer cradle as well as rear underbody ‘V’ braces. Chevy engineers also added a hydrofoamed tube in the A-pillars, an inner reinforcement bracket in the windshield header, a reinforced front hinge pillar and reinforcements inside the rockers to reduce noise and vibration.

General Motors confirmed today that the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 recently lapped the Nurburgring Nordschleife in just 7:41.27. The time is nearly 40 seconds quicker than the Camaro SS that lapped the famous German track in 2009.

Chevrolet said that the Camaro ZL1 used for the lap was pre-production model with no performance modifications. It was driven by Camaro Performance Engineer Aaron Link.

“The Nurburgring is unlike any track in the world,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. “Each lap includes fast straights, sweeping off-camber turns, hairpin corners, and elevation changes. In order to do well on the ‘Ring, the car has to do everything well – including acceleration, braking, and lateral grip. Breaking an eight-minute lap in a 2+2 production car is a tremendous accomplishment, and validates that the Camaro ZL1 will truly be track-ready from the showroom.”

“The ZL1’s full capability is evident at the Nurburgring,” said Link. “One of the best moments is coming through ‘Fuchsröhre’, or Foxhole. The ZL1 accelerates at an unbelievable rate down through the tunnel of trees, and into a sweeping left-hand corner flat out in fifth gear. You have to have an extremely well-mannered, confidence-inspiring car to take any corner at 160 mph without lifting off the throttle – and the ZL1 was just brilliant.”

Our friends over at AutoCar were recently handed the Lexus LFA Nurburgring Edition for a quick spin around the Nurburgring itself. Needless to say, we are very jealous.

Refresher: The Lexus LFA Nurburgring Package has been designed for a more track-focused performance through additional aerodynamic elements, lowered suspension and engine revisions. Power comes from the 4.8L V10 has been increased by 10-hp to a total of 562-hp. That allows a 0-62 mph time of 3.7 seconds to be maintained. The LFA Nurburgring Package also improves handling with the help of suspension tuning and a 10mm reduction in ride height.

For the past couple of days, many have been seeing spy shots of a beefed up Lexus LS hanging around the Nurburgring. We now have a video of what is known as the Lexus LS TMG edition circling the Nurburgring along with some new details.

Apparently, the Lexus LS TMG Edition is a project car by Lexus of Germany. No word on what’s going on this model but Lexus will release more details as time goes on.

For now, we know that the Lexus LS TMG Edition is powered by a 5.0 liter V8 pumping out 641-hp and a peak torque of 524 lb-ft. That enables it to run from 0 to 62 mph in 4.2 seconds with a top speed of 198 mph. The Lexus LS TMG Edition weighs a heft 4,563 pounds.

The car used during the test was a standard production model. The tests were recorded on Aug. 23, 2011 at the UK Santa Pod Raceway, home of the FIA European Drag Racing Championships.

Infiniti says that performance of the Infiniti M puts it on par with performance heroes like the 1982 Lamborghini Countach1 and within a few tenths of some Porsches, Ferraris and Aston Martins.

“The Infiniti M35h proves that hybrids can be fast as well as frugal,” said Tim Pollard, associate editor of the UK’s CAR Magazine. “At Santa Pod you could feel the instant torque of the electric motor away from standstill – the car just leapt off the line. I did try changing gears manually, but it was fastest left in automatic. That was when we achieved the fastest single run of 13.8960 seconds. But what impressed most was the Infiniti M’s duality of purpose: it might be quick, but it’s also comfy and very easy to drive. It felt like it could do these runs all week long.”

Refresher: The Infiniti M35 Hybrid will be powered by a single electric-motor/twin-clutch arrangement, mated to a naturally aspirated 3.5L V6. Together the system makes 360-hp. The first-clutch is installed between the V6 engine and the electric motor, which Infiniti says allows for a more responsive drive. Infiniti said that the M35 Hybrid, which will carry a lithium-ion battery pack, has the ability to run solely on electric-power under certain driving conditions. 0 to 62 mph comes in 5.5 seconds with an EPA-rated fuel-economy of 27/32 mpg (city/highway).
