Just when we thought that the luxury version of the Nissan GT-R was dead, we recently saw a spy video of the model hanging out at the Nurburgring. According to AutoCar, the Nissan GT-R Spec M badging will now be dropped in favor of ‘Nissan GT-R Egoist.’

That’s right, some higher-ups at Nissan decided to drop the Spec M badging and picked the new ‘Egoist’ name inspired by the Chanel perfume and the apparel maker of the same name.

“Yes, there”s a bit of tongue in cheek in the name, and yes, the word does mean self-conceited, but we just wanted to have some fun with the name,” a spokesman told AutoCar.

The Nissan GT-R Egoist is expected to hit Japanese dealers on October 13 with a revised grille, bumper, front intake duct, a smoother ride and suspension.

Late last year, blogs, forums and magazines were buzzing about something called a Nissan GT-R SpecM. The special edition GT-R was supposed to debut at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show but all we saw was an upgraded 2011 Nissan GT-R with some minor enhancements. And just when we thought the GT-R SpecM was dead, the man behind the project, Kazutoshi Mizuno, came out and said that Nissan always planned on doing a GT-R SpecM after it released the SpecV.

What exactly is the SpecM? It’s basically a Nissan GT-R with a a smoother ride, which will make the supercar more comfortable on everyday roads. The main focus will be to act like a road car first and a track car second.

Just to remind us the program is still alive and breathing, the folks at Auto Motor und Sport recently caught the Nissan GT-R SpecM testing at the Nurburgring.

Check out the video after the jump.

We’ve been hearing about the Nissan GT-R SpecM for some time now. The car was rumored to debut at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show last month but instead we saw an upgraded 2011 Nissan GT-R with some minor enhancements. Nonetheless, Nissan says that the SpecM is still in the works.

The man behind the R34 M-Spec, Kazutoshi Mizuno, told Inside Line that Nissan always planned on doing a GT-R SpecM after it released the SpecV. Like the first SpecM, the new one will also have a smoother ride, which will make the supercar more comfortable on everyday roads. Basically, it will focus on being a road car first and a track car second.

Prices of the Nissan GT-R SpecM are expected to be more than the hardcore GT-R SpecV. The release is reported to be scheduled for early next year.

Following the more aggressive GT-R SpecV, Nissan is planning another limited edition of Godzilla known as the GT-R SpecM. We first heard about the Nissan GT-R SpecM earlier this year as a GT-R with a “softer, more refined setup” and one that will include “ripple control shock to absorb the bumps.”

The Nissan GT-R SpecM will also offer buyers a wider, more luxurious choice of interior trims.

According to a report by Japan’s Carmode, the GT-R SpecM will make its world debut at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show next month.

We’re not sure why but there is apparently a market for Nissan GT-Rs with a smoother and more refined ride. If the Nissan GT-R is considered a high-performance supercar, the Nissan GT-R SpecV is an even more hard-going, rough version that allows for increased performance.

In come the violins and some Mozart and you get the Nissan GT-R SpecM. Unlike the GT-R SpecV’s firm suspension, the GT-R SpecM will get a softer, more refined setup and will also include ripple control shock to absorb the bumps.

Nissan will also offer a wider, more luxurious choice of interior trims to go after a more upmarket shopper. That means you’ll see wood grain trim finishes and such. Pricing is expected to start around 13 million Yen ($132,228 USD) – which is significantly less than the 16 million Yen ($162,742 USD) price tag of the Nissan GT-R SpecV.

Nissan GT-R SpecV:
