About a month ago, Joe Maddalena and his company ‘Profiles in History’ said they were going to auction off a DeLorean used in the Back to the Future III movie along with a bunch of other memorabilia. It turns out that the DeLorean used in the third part of the movie brought in a winning bid of a whopping $541,200.

While DeLorean had prepared a total of 7 DMC-12s for the Back to the Future series, this specific model was one of the only three remaining and the only one in private hands.

Part of the proceeds from the winning bid will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, known as the largest private funder of Parkinson’s research.

On December 21, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol will hit theaters in the United States. BMW will have a range of new vehicles featured throughout the movie including the Vision EfficientDynamics i8 concept and the BMW 6 Series Convertible, which are driven by Tom Cruise’s character, Ethan Hunt.

To coincide with the movie, BMW has launched a global Mission: Impossible-themed marketing campaign dubbed ‘Mission to Drive’ leading up to the film’s premiere.

The incentive will offer credit of up to $2,500 on select models at the BMW Mission to Drive Sales Event. The offer will self-destruct January 3, 2012.

Joe Maddalena and his company ‘Profiles in History’ are preparing to auction off a bunch of spectacular items from the Back to the Future movie series at their ‘Icons of Hollywood’ auction that will run from Dec. 15 – Dec. 17.

The biggest item going up for auction will be the DeLorean Time Machine driven by Michael J. Fox as “Marty McFly” in Back to the Future III. There were a total of 7 DeLoreans used on-screen in the Back to the Future trilogy and only three units survived.

This particular one was used in the 1955 drive-in movie scene when Michael J. Fox drives it into the past and lands in 1885 to find Doc. The model was built completely for off road use.

The car comes with a Universal Studios certificate of authenticity and an original signed Bill of Sale with the VIN number. The model is estimated to fetch $400,000 – $600,000.

The other DeLoreans are still owned by Universal Studios.

Not all producers appreciate their actors. But as Johnny Depp recently finished The Rum Diaries, producer Graham King handed Depp the keys to the red ‘59 Corvette used in the film. This isn’t a form of payment, but rather a token of appreciation given to someone who certainly could afford to purchase several ‘59 Corvettes. King said that Depp was “pretty blown away by it.”

Depp plays a journalist who has escaped New York City for Puerto Rico, attempting journalism in a different climate. Depp can be seen driving the car in the film with actress Amber Heard riding shotgun, as depicted in the film’s trailer.

The Rum Diary opens in theatres October 28 of this year.

Drive, a new film featuring a Ryan Gosling as a getaway driver, came in way further down the box office list than the 3-D release of The Lion King this weekend.

While Drive got good reviews from movie goers and many critics like The Hollywood Reporter’s “exhilarating ride” comment, others pointed out some negative spots. The Los Angeles Times‘ Kenneth Turan says Drive “doesn’t spend a lot of time on mayhem, but what does get put on screen is intense, unsettling and increasingly grotesque and graphic.”

The $11 million that Drive made may have been enough to top Sarah Jessica Parker’s latest, I Don’t Know How She Does It, but the film didn’t come close to the $29.3 million The Lion King brought in. Looks like the mixed reviews made it tough for a newcomer to compete with a classic.

Next summer, when The Avengers hits theaters, moviegoers will be a seeing a lot of Acuras and that’s because the brand has been in the Marvel Comics Universe films as the official car of the fictional law enforcement agency called S.H.I.E.L.D.

As comic fans very well know, Iron Man Tony Stark is a part of the Avengers and he will indeed be getting rid of his Audi R8 for a new Acura convertible sports car. We’re pretty sure that Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson) didn’t want to disappoint one of the sponsors of the S.H.I.E.L.D., in turn making Stark give up his Audi for an Acura.

Our take? The Acura doesn’t look bad at all. In fact it seems to have many touches of the Audi R8 itself with a little bit of Aston Martin One-77 in the back.

The final installment in The Dark Knight series is on its way with Batman: The Dark Knight Rises. We’ve already seen a video of the Tumbler driving around in Pittsburgh and we’ve seen Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. Today, we see the team filming a take on the new Batwing craft.

The movie will be released on July 20, 2012.

If you’re a James Bond and car fan like I am, then you’ll like this bit of news. The National Motor Museum of UK has just announced that they will stage the largest display of MI6’s Q-Branch car collection ever.

Planned to run at the museum throughout 2012, the display will include some of the most iconic cars in the franchise, which include the likes of the 2002 Jaguar XKR with SFX weapons from Die Another Day, Bond’s original 1964 Aston Martin DB5 from Goldeneye, and the 1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III from Goldfinger.

A total of 50 cars will be on display during the exhibition and this event comes as the National Motor Museum marks its 40th anniversary in 2012.

Word has been bouncing around involving Christopher Nolan’s latest entry to the Batman franchise and we’ve seen some preproduction photos of the crew hard at work. A new photo has popped up, compliments of Warner Brothers Studios.

The photo is of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman riding Batman’s prized bike that came from the damaged Batman Tumbler assault vehicle in The Dark Knight. However, not much else came with the photo release in terms of info. So of course, we can expect some more information pop up about the latest Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises.

This does raise some questions though however for the movie itself. Nolan has been known in his last two Batman films to cram as many back story characters as possible. Could he be doing it again? Either way, I still leave my trust in the hands of Nolan.

If you happened to watch Top Gear on Sunday (not this past Sunday but the Sunday before that), then you probably saw Rowan Atkinson during the “Star in a Reasonably Priced Car” segment. And if like us, you fast-forwarded or left your tele for a quick bite, then you missed something very interesting.

Besides taking a lap in the Kia around Top Gear’s track, Atkinson told us about his upcoming movie ‘Johnny English’ and the Rolls-Royce Phantom seen in the flick.

Before setting out to film ‘Johnny English’ Atkinson contacted Rolls-Royce and asked them to fit one of their 9.0 liter V16 engines into the Phantom. They definitely agreed since the original Phantom was designed to fit the V16 in the first place when BMW bought the Rolls-Royce brand in the late 20th century. They apparently made three or four of these V16 engines that produced “unbelievable power and torque.”

I know some of you Batman fans will love this one. Over the years, we’ve seen a number of replicas of the infamous Batmobile pop up. Some were actually fully functioning with modern day engines and tech. But this one is a little different.

So there’s this man. And one day, he decided that he wanted his own Batmobile to come home to, but not one that is pretentious, like the others. This man’s name is Casey Putsch of Putsch Racing, a restoration and design firm. Upon this thought, he bought a jet engine.

Yes, it’s a big’ol Boeing turboshaft turbine engine taken from a decommissioned naval drone helicopter. And then, Mr. Putsch slapped on his own bodywork and the result is a Batmobile frome th the 1990s era. Power is rated at 385-hp while the vehicle itself only weighs in at 2,800lbs—not a bad power-to-weight ratio, considering it’s a Batmobile.

The outside isn’t the only thing that’s tricked as well. Step inside and you can feel like this car was truly made from the modern day equivalent to Wayne Industries—like its center console-mounted Apple iPad integrated multi-info display. Pretty neat stuff.

If you’ve already seen Transformers: Dark of the Moon or are going to see it tonight, then you have/will probably catch a glimpse of the new BMW i8 Vision EfficientDynamics during the Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol trailer.

‘Mission Impossible: The Ghost Protocol’ is scheduled to hit theaters on Dec. 16, 2011. Tom Cruise will be returning for the fourth installment but will be joined by Simon Pegg and Jeremy Renner, who is reported to replace Tom Cruise in the series.

Sales of the BMW i8 will start in 2013, following the debut of the BMW i3.

Refresher: Power for the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics prototype comes from a 1.5L 3-cylinder turbo diesel engine mated to a hybrid synchronous motor at the front axle and a full-hybrid engine at the rear axle. Jointly the system will produce an output of 328-hp. 0-62 mph comes in just 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. Fuel-economy is estimated at 63 mpg and the concept can provide 31 miles of zero-emissions driving. On July 20, 2012, Batman fans will run to the theaters to watch the third installment in the new Batman franchise – Batman: The Dark Knight Rises. In the movie, Bruce Wayne (who is played by Christian Bale) will have a Lamborghini Aventador has his daily driver – not bad.

On a side note: The villain in The Dark Knight Rises will be Bane played by Tom Hardy. Bane is considered one of Batman’s most deadly, powerful foes.

Refresher: The Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 will be powered by a 6.5L V12 engine making 690-hp and 509 lb-ft of torque. Mated to the company’s new ISR (Independent Shifting Rod) 7-speed transmission, 0 to 60 mph will come in 2.9 seconds with a top speed of 217 mph. The Aventador is an all-wheel-drive supercar courtesy of Lamborghini’s Haldex 4-wheel drive system. Prices will start north of $375,000.

If you happened to catch Fast Five in the theaters earlier this year and stayed in the theater until after credits you probably saw a nice little setup for the six installment in the go-fast, underground racing series. During the scene, Eve Mendez walks up to Dwayne Johnson and shows him a file containing a picture of Letty (aka Michelle Rodriguez), Dom’s (Vin Diesel) girlfriend, who apparently passed away earlier in part 4. The leads us to believe that Letty never passed away and that part six of the Fast and Furious series will be about her return to the team.

NBC Universal has just confirmed that the sixth film in The Fast and Furious Series will hit theaters on May 24, 2013.

Surprisingly, the film won’t open in April – both Fast & Furious and Fast Five opened to a record-breaking day in April. By moving the release date to late May, we guess Universal is betting that the series is strong enough to kick off the summer movie season.

Also Universal has promised that the franchise will continue to evolve from its car roots into a “heist action” series.

Award-winning directors and writers, Christopher and Jonathon Nolan created an entire new light on the Batman franchise, leading to some outrageously designed Batmobiles, first displayed in 2005’s “Batman Begins.” After some back and forth rumors regarding an addition to Nolan’s Batman movie universe, the two movie producers are finally working on a new film, which of course means a new Batmobile.

Designed and constructed by Gordon Murray Auto Design, the same group that brought automobile history the McLaren F1 and the T.27 city car, the latest Batmobile went green featuring a hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain with lithium-ion batteries. Of course, in Batmobile tradition, it also has a not-so-green carbon-ceramic afterburner.

The F1-inspired design includes carbon-fiber trim that is said to “breathe” with “virtual wheels ringed by LED lights,” whatever that means.

The “Caped Crusader’s” ride was unveiled just before the Batman Live World Arena Tour, which is kicking off in Manchester, England on July 19th.

We’re just a couple of days away from Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon hitting theaters (July 1 to be exact). Chevrolet has just released a new commercial for the Chevrolet Camaro highlighting its product placement in the third installment of the Transformers series.

The commercial shows a bunch of Bumblebee Camaro footage from Transformers 3 with Tim Allen’s voice in the background saying “You may never have to outrun a Decepticon invasion… it’s just nice to know you can.”

Boys of Bonneville

The Bonneville Salt Flats is a heavy densely-packed salt pan in Utah that is a remaining of the Pleistocene Lake Bonneville. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management, the Bonneville Salt Flats is the largest of many salt flats located west of the Great Salt Lake. The area is best known for land speed records at the “Bonneville Speedway”.

However, many do not know of the unsung hero and self-made man who pioneered the Bonneville Salt Flats as the Fastest Place on Earth. A new movie called “Boys of Bonneville: Racing on a Ribbon of Salt” reveals that man:
