The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition has been around for quite some time now. Powered by a 5.5 liter supercharged V8 engine that produces 650 horsepower, the SLR McLaren 722 Edition is one supercar that holds true to its rang.

Well, edo Competition decided to offer its own modification package on the supercar and changed the name to the edo SLR Black Arrow.

With a matte black exterior and 21-inch alloy wheels, edo took the 5.5 liter supercharged V8 and fitted it with a revised air intake, stainless steel sport exhaust system and an optimized ECU. That results in an output of 722-hp at 7,100 rpm with a maximum torque of 656 lb-ft. That allows the edo SLR Black Arrow to run from 0 to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds, 0 to 186 mph in 24.5 seconds with a top speed of 214 mph.

Press Release:

Flat black, extremely fast and striking, that’s the edo SLR Black Arrow. The appeal of this mighty supercar created by edo competition is more than just skin deep: It’s powerful, fast and attracts attention despite its stealthy finish.

A McLaren SLR Coupe wearing a special flat coating forms the basis for this unique vehicle. The Black Arrow could have been designed for the race tracks of the world, but the modifications go far beyond the flat black exterior. In addition to the new stainless steel high-performance exhaust system, which provides a truly impressive soundtrack, and the new edo 21 in. racing wheels shod in high-performance rubber, the interior has been refinished in black with carbon fiber trim.

Bucket seats with leather/alcantara skins, the grippy alcantara steering wheel with shift paddles and custom made carbon fiber pieces for the dashboard, center console and door panels add racing flair to the interior. The cabin is further accented with a new custom sound system featuring navigation, phone, TV and iPod integration as well as a reversing camera.

The supercharged V8 engine now puts out 722 horsepower at 7,100 rpm and 890 Nm (656 lb-ft) of torque. In order to achieve these numbers, the supercharger drive ratio was modified and the ECU was remapped to accommodate the hardware changes. A revised intake system, new exhaust headers, high flow catalytic converters and air filters help the engine breathe better. The powertrain engineers used a dynamometer to build new ECU maps and change the on-board diagnostics system accordingly. The result is an ideal tune with perfect power delivery.

The performance figures speak for themselves: 100 km/h (62 mph) is reached in just 3.4 seconds and the needle hitse needle crosses the 300 km/h mark (186 mph) in a phenomenal 24.5 seconds.rfect power delivery.d ed to accomodate the hardware the 300 km/h mark (186 mph) in a phenomenal 24.5 seconds. The new found power also has an effect on top speed, which now stands at an electronically governed 345 km/h (214 mph).

The SLR Black Arrow by edo competition is an exceptionally performance-minded-ed version of nts a d system featuring navigation, phone, tv and iPod integration as well as a r version of the legendary supercar, and with a little luck you might be able to see it at one of the many race tracks of the world.

All modifications are carried out exclusively at edo competition Motorsport GmbH in Ahlen.

Mercedes-Benz and McLaren ended their relationship last year after building 2,000 amazing units of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. Those 2,000 owners may have something to look forward directly from McLaren as the company unveiled a special tuning kit for the SLR at the 2010 Essen Motor Show.

The kit, known as the McLaren Edition SLR, comes with new aerodynamic body kit upgrades that increase downforce. It also features a modified steering, suspension and some interior upgrades.

Only 25 versions of the kit will be created, but we’re not sure how much each example will sell for. With only 2,000 units of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren running around, we’re pretty sure they’ll carry a hefty price tag.

Press Release:

The end of a great era: Mercedes-Benz is building the last examples of the SLR

Stuttgart/Woking ““ The last examples of the Mercedes-Benz SLR Stirling Moss are currently being built, bringing the active era of the SLR super sports car from Mercedes-Benz and McLaren to an end. In 2004, with the swing-wing Coupé, Mercedes-Benz and McLaren jointly set out to continue the story of the legendary SLR racing sports cars of the 1950s. Five exciting variants in the SLR family have been produced ““ two coupés, two roadster versions and finally the uncompromisingly purist SLR Stirling Moss. This breathtaking, high-speed racer is a limited edition of 75 examples, and is the final chapter in the modern SLR story. Overall 2000 SLR models have been produced ““ substantially more than any other sports car in this elite category. An SLR also represents a membership ticket to the SLR. CLUB. The spirit of the SLR will live on in this exclusive community of gentleman-drivers even after production ceases.

Three letters are all it takes to make car fans go into raptures: SLR. On paper, the legendary name simply stands for “sporty”, “light” and “raceworthy”. But, for connoisseurs, this magical combination of letters designates a dream car of special standing, promising unequalled driving enjoyment ““ a unique symbiosis of outstanding dynamics, superior performance and exceptional comfort.

In January 2009 Mercedes-Benz presented the most spectacular and uncompromising version of the reinterpreted 300 SLR as the last model in the SLR family – the SLR Stirling Moss. With neither a roof nor a windscreen to separate the driver and front passenger from nature, allowing them to enjoy sheer high-speed excitement with all the attributes of a speedster. Further attributes of the new Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss include highly sophisticated technology and breathtaking design that provides a new take on the SLR legend. A V8 supercharged engine developing 478 kW (650 hp) accelerates the SLR Stirling Moss from zero to 100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds, and is good for a top speed of 350 km/h ““ performance that no other standard-production car can match. This extreme concept makes the new high-performance sports car a worthy and legitimate bearer of the name of British motor-racing legend Stirling Moss, who piloted the legendary Mercedes-Benz SLR racing cars to a succession of victories in the 1950s.The SLR Stirling Moss accompanied by the 300 SLR and members of the SLR. CLUB celebrated its maiden journey at this year’s Mille Miglia, in the hands of the former Mercedes Formula 1 drivers Mika Häkkinen and David Coulthard. Sir Stirling Moss himself had even made a return to Brescia to be an eye-witness to this historic event. The SLR Stirling Moss is a limited edition of 75 examples, and production of the SLR series will then cease at the end of 2009.

The SLR spirit lives on

The SLR project was conceived for a limited period, and as a limited edition, from the very start, and is now coming to a magnificent, entirely fitting end with the SLR Stirling Moss. The SLR spirit lives on, however, and will be perpetuated by the enthusiastic members of the SLR. CLUB. In addition to a passion for driving, the members of this exclusive community of gentleman-drivers, all of whom have an SLR model in their garages, share a discerning, sophisticated lifestyle and the enjoyment of encounters with like-minded enthusiasts. The high-quality event calendar of the SLR. CLUB includes driving events on the most demanding race circuits, participation in the Mille Miglia and tours covering the most picturesque routes in Europe. Individual, long-term backup and care at the very highest level for SLR. CLUB members is assured by dedicated Mercedes-Benz personnel well beyond the end of production.

The birth of a legend

The SLR legend was born in 1955, when Rudolf Uhlenhaut, then head of passenger-car testing and in charge of racing-car development at Mercedes-Benz, transformed a fascinating idea into reality. He combined the design and technology of the spectacular Mercedes-Benz 300 SL “Gullwing” model produced since 1954 with the outstanding characteristics of the 300 SLR, one of the most successful racing machines of all time, which at that time dominated all the major road races ““ above all the notorious Tourist Trophy in Northern Ireland and the two Italian classics: Targa Florio and Mille Miglia. Here Stirling Moss and Dennis Jenkinson piloted the racing Mercedes to victory in a record time that still stands to this very day. But the Brits were not the only ones to achieve success in the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR. Juan Manuel Fangio, who went on to become Formula-1 World Champion five times, and the speedy Karl Kling drove the sports car from Untertürkheim to many a place on the rostrum. The road-going Coupé version of this legendary racing machine ““ better known as the “Uhlenhaut Coupé” among automotive aficionados ““ was at the heart of the passionate affection for the SLR held by automotive enthusiasts.

High-class synthesis of legend, performance and comfort

The models in the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren family, which have been rolling off the assembly lines at the world championship-winning team’s headquarters in Woking since 2004, are the most emphatic reminders of the glory years of the SLR during the 1950s. They have brought the core values of the historic SLR models into the modern era ““ an exciting design featuring many details reminiscent of its predecessors, innovative technology and carefully hand-crafted, high-grade materials. They also continue the tradition of the high-class Gran Turismo models in time-honoured fashion. The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren models offer a beguiling mix of optimum handling, extremely high speed and outstanding acceleration, not to mention a wealth of exquisite appointments, all of which makes for a truly unique driving experience.

To keep faith with the traditionally unique standing of the SLR, Mercedes-Benz and McLaren Automotive pooled all of their extensive motor-racing know-how to produce the super sports car. By way of example, the SLR models set the very highest of standards in terms of handling, rigidity and safety for high-performance cars thanks to the extremely widespread use of exceptionally lightweight yet very strong carbon-fibre materials, including the carbon-fibre front structures based on Formula 1 monocoque constructions, which optimise the car’s crashworthiness.

Outstanding powerplant for the front-mid-engine concept

In addition to this, the front-mid-engine concept allows the masses to be concentrated near the centre of the car, which makes for a low mass moment of inertia and consequently exceptional agility and handling dynamics. This concept, together with a chassis configuration born on the racetrack, forms the basis for optimum handling and peerless driving enjoyment. Here an important part is also played by the powerful high-tech engine with motor-racing genes, which was developed at Mercedes-AMG and provides power in abundance. In the Coupé and Roadster models, the driver can call upon 460 kW (626 hp) from the eight-cylinder powerplant with a displacement of 5.5 litres, while the “722″ models develop 478 kW (650 hp), ranking the SLR engines among the most powerful units for road-going production sports cars.

Exciting design and exquisite interior

The design of the SLR high-performance sports cars generates sheer excitement by virtue of the stretched bonnet, taut waistline, rear-set passenger cell and short rear end of the Coupé and Roadster ““ making the thrill of high-speed performance visible as well. Features born on the racetrack include the downforce-enhancing aerodynamic concept incorporating a diffuser, an enclosed underbody, a spoiler and the AIRBRAKE.

As for the interior of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren models, the designers have created a synthesis of puristic sports-car feeling and extraordinary luxury. Exquisite materials such as carbon fibre, aluminium and leather developed exclusively for the SLR are of the highest quality and exclusivity. They dominate the passenger area of the Gran Turismo and further emphasise the unique nature of the car.

FAB Design has unveiled its latest creation known as the SLR “Desire”; and while we think they could have come up with a better name, they don’t fail to impress us with their take on the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.

FAB Design built its body modifications with lightweight carbon fiber including the new front and rear fenders, a new front apron, the FAB Design side skirts and a huge rear-wing. The “Desire” rides on 20-inch wheels.

Performance has been increase from the SLR’s standard 626-hp to 750-hp with a maximum torque of 797 lb-ft. 0 to 62 mph comes in just 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 196 mph. Sound is amplified through the high-performance sports exhaust system and its six tailpipes.

FAB will only be making 15 units and don’t worry about the pricing info since all units have already been sold out.

Press Release:

With the SLR “Desire”, FAB Design has once more demonstrated its competence in the field of high-end luxury car customisation.

From the FAB Design high-performance engine which generates an unbelievable performance of 750hp and a maximum torque of 1,080Nm to the perfectly designed FAB Design interior – nearly any relevant part of the Mercedes super sports car has been customised and brought to perfection with the highest level of technical expertise by the FAB Design specialists.

The FAB Design body which has been redesigned by the Swiss specialist for this very exquisite
masterpiece is made of ultra sturdy but extremely light and precious carbon which is produced in an autoclave – as is the case in aerospace industry and in Formula 1 – and in accordance with highest quality standards. At several exposed spots, the material is even visible since it has been clear-varnished in order to set spectacular accents.

Apart from the front and rear fenders, it also comprises new and exclusive FAB Design side skirts with special recesses for the FAB Design high-performance sports exhaust system whose pipes come out on the vehicle’s sides as is the case with the standard SLR.

The completely redesigned motor sports front apron as well as the reshaped bonnet which is adapted to the style of the new front side and to the wider fenders are further exclusive FAB Design highlights.

Even though, compared to the standard SLR, the vehicle has gained considerably in width, once again, the FAB Design specialists have succeeded in creating an absolutely harmonious silhouette.

This is the reason why the FAB Design specialists had the idea of creating something very special for the vehicle’s rear end.

The rear panel, completely redesigned by FAB Design, frames a huge diffuser which reduces the lift force. At the same time, the optionally available FAB Design rear wing spoiler increases the downforce at the rear axle without affecting the functionality of the brake assist inside the rear lid.

The result is a considerable improvement of driving dynamics and, thus, also of the driving safety at high and peak speeds which the FAB-Design “Desire” will reach in the twinkling of an eye thanks to its enormous engine performance.

The FAB Design specialists have achieved a further significant improvement of driving characteristics by installing their special sports suspension and by equipping the vehicle with huge forged FAB Design 20″ wheels which are provided with special high-performance 265/30 ZR 20 and 325/25 ZR 20 tyres by technology partner Michelin.

In the fist place, the interior equipment impresses with the way it harmonises with the vehicle’s colour. The interior is completely composed of black FAB DESIGN leather. The specially developed red FAB Design croco-style leather sets additional stylish accents. The FAB Design interior emphasises the appearance of the “Desire” with race character and elegance.

In order to make sure that the FAB Design “Desire” will not be taken for a toothless tiger, the FAB Design specialists have focussed all their expertise and experience on the super sports car’s powertrain.

Thanks to extensive modifications of the engine periphery and of the hard and software, the FAB Design high-performance powertrain now generates 750hp instead of the standard SLR’s 626hp. The maximum torque has been increased from 780Nm to 1,080Nm.

The result of all those efforts: The FAB Design “Desire” reaches a regulated top speed of 310 km/h and passes the 100 km/h mark in 3.6 seconds. This breathtaking demonstration of engine force is, of course, rounded off by the infernal sound of the FAB Design high-performance sports exhaust system’s total number of six tailpipes.

With the SLR “Desire”, FAB Design has made another impressive statement of its special class in the field of high-end luxury car customisation.

Unfortunately, FAB Design has limited the number of vehicles strictly to 15, and, although it was shown in Geneva only, the whole production is already sold out.

It seems like every time AMG boss Volker Mornhinweg announces that “the horsepower war is over” RENNTECH comes out with a press release releasing an new horsepower upgrade for AMG vehicles.

“Last year, it was a coincidence that we were releasing a new, 695 hp performance package for the 65 series AMG cars at around the same time. We sent out a press release that said ‘HP War Not Over’,” said Hartmut Feyhl, president of RENNTECH. “This year it is the same timing again, and we have something much more extreme to announce for our 20th Anniversary.”

This time around RENNTECH will introduce a new performance package for the McLaren 722 that will offer horsepower upgrades of up to 777-hp with a top speed reaching over 210 mph. Known as the RENNTECH 777, the new car will use the advanced carbon fiber chassis of the SLR McLaren with some aerodynamical upgrades including a huge wing, splitters and side skirts.

RENNTECH will only make 20 units of the RENNTECH 777 to celebrate the company’s 20th anniversary.

Using mainly carbon fiber material, HAMANN added a new front and rear wing along with new side skirts, an integrated hood scoop and a new front and rear spoiler. HAMANN also offers a special paint job for the Volcano in either aluminum/chrome or white/matte-black. The HAMANN Volcano rides on 21-inch EDITION RACE wheels.

Power comes from the same 5.4L V8 engine but with a new modified ECU and a high-performance exhaust manifolds, output is increased to 700-hp with a maximum torque of 612 lb-ft. 0 to 60 mph comes in 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 218-mph – that’s 9 mph faster than the factory produced SLR 722.

Press Release:

HAMANN VOLCANO

The serial Mercedes-Benz SLR is already one of the most impressive cars on our roads ““ but compared to the HAMANN VOLCANO it still looks rather harmless. Once again, HAMANN-Motorsport proves its cutting edge when it comes to refining superb sports cars. From a lift-reducing body design to a powerful performance enhancement to a lavishly styled interior, HAMANN focuses on all components of this luxury car and makes the automobile dreams of its exclusive clientele come true.

The total makeover of the Laupheim-based refiner is made of extremely light full carbon and consists of front- and rear wing extensions and also new side skirt attachments and sheathings. The front view of the Volcano is optically perfected with a newly designed bonnet which enhances the overall impression by its integrated hood scoop. But also for the rear, the refining technicians implemented new ideas giving the SLR appearance its finishing touch. Under the boot lid cover, HAMANN placed a strong diffuser which improves the car´s output in combination with the large rear wing. At the front axle, a newly developed front spoiler renders the necessary contact pressure. If desired, an especially developed overall paint for the VOLCANO in either aluminium/chrome or white/matt completes the striking appearance of this bolide.

The 21-inch rims named EDITION RACE with tyres measuring 255/30ZR21 at the front and 345/25ZR21 at the back render an optimal road grip. The design of the extraordinary light forged wheel thereby combines vitality and elegance and also perfectly fills out the wheel houses.

The HAMANN makeover is not only sportive, but also has a lot to offer under the bonnet. The HAMANN motor technicians get the most out of the Mercedes Benz V8-aggregate (5.4 litres, 626 hp, 780 Nm): 700 hp / 515 kW and a maximum torque of 830 Nm at 3,300 crankshaft revolutions per minute. The therefore necessary modifications include a newly programmed control unit, especially developed high performance exhaust manifolds and an amended belt pulley combination for the serial compressors. In order to facilitate the increased motor performance, HAMANN adds a second water pump and adjusts the gearbox electronics. Invigorated in this way and with the adequate sound from the six end pipes of the sport exhaust system, the VULCANO accelerates from naught to a hundred in only 3.6 seconds. With a maximum speed of 348 km/h, the HAMANN VOLCANO is 14 km/h faster than the serial model.

The HAMANN product even beats the factory-provided performance-enhanced special series SLR 722 by impressive 11 km/h.

A skillfully refined interior is waiting for the VOLCANO-pilot and also the exterior does not rank behind. The overall makeover contains pedals and foot rests in aluminium as well as noble door sill protectors and headrests with embossed embroidered HAMANN-Logos. They can also be found on the exclusive floor mats. The overall makeover can be enhanced with a HAMANN interior set containing custom-made carbon parts for the dashboard and centre console. If desired, also the roof interior, all pillars, the cockpit including the steering wheel and the sun visors can hereby be adjusted in terms of colour. Therefore, HAMANN solely uses the high-quality material Alcantara.

About a year ago, RML teamed up with Mercedes-Benz to offer the McLaren SLR 722 GT, a SLR 722 made only for the track with an upgraded suspension, braking system, interior and exhaust system. Power came from a supercharged AMG 5.5L V8 that produces 680-hp giving the SLR 722 GT the ability to go from 0 to 62 mph in 3.3 seconds with a top speed of 195 mph.

Those interested in one had to cash out $1.2 million in the U.S. and could only purchase the SLR 722 GT from RENNtech. Of course, we thought that would be pretty steep for anyone to cash out on a track-only car – we were wrong.

As RENNtech promised, it has been organizing several on-track events throughout the US, in 2008. And a recent event was caught on video showing eight SLR McLaren 722 GTs in action with Brazilian race car driver Bruno Senna Lalli leading the pack.

You can check out the video after the jump.
