The 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan and coupe are already out and about. Later this year, Mercedes-Benz will unveil an estate (station wagon) and convertible variant at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. But wait – there’s more.

According to AutoExpress, Mercedes-Benz is now working on a production version of the Fascination Concept that was unveiled at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. The three-door estate, otherwise known as a shooting brake, will become the fifth derivative of the 2010 E-Class lineup in 2011.

Sources say that the model could become a standalone model like the CLS, with Mercedes-Benz execs hoping for the same success as they’ve had with the four-door-coupe.

The engine lineup of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class shooting brake will be shared with the E-Class Coupe.

Mercedes-Benz US CEO Ernst Lied has confirmed that the CLK will die after the 2010 model year and will be replaced with a large coupe and convertible based on the next-generation E-Class. As we’ve reported before the E-Class coupe will be influenced by the CONCEPT FASCINATION that was shown at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. Executives have said that the concept’s front-end is a major hint at the next-generation E-Class lineup

Lieb told Automotive News that the coupe will debut when the new 2010 E-Class sedan is launched in the middle of 2009. The convertible version will follow in 2010. He said that Mercedes-Benz was looking for a larger coupe to better compete with the likes of the Audi A5.

The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe will cost more than the current CLK, which is based on the C-Class. It is also rumored that Mercedes-Benz will replace the CLC with a true Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe in 2010. The C-Class is Mercedes-Benz’s best seller in the U.S.

Mercedes-Benz CONCEPT FASCINATION:

Mercedes-Benz unveiled its Concept FASCINATION today at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. The concept is supposed to hint at the next-generation E-Class and CLK while showing off some of Mercedes’ fuel-efficient technologies.

We still don’t know why Mercedes-Benz is showing the concept version of the next CLK and E-Class in station wagon form, but it’s still better than nothing.

Power for the Mercedes-Benz Concept FASCINATION comes from a 2.2 liter 4-cylinder diesel engine that makes 204-hp with a maximum torque of 369 lb-ft. The same engine powers the new C 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Prime Edition.
