It seems like in this day and age of newer is better, old Mercedes-Benzes tend to go overlooked and are often underappreciated. It’s rather unfortunate since their cars have been reputed for so many superlatives that even today, only those who do appreciate them—like me, hardcore—are the ones who never forget.

But even for those who need a refresher, most of you will agree that old Mercedes-Benzes have truly proven themselves to withstand the test of time and wear and tear.

Either way, rappers Jan Emil Wathne and Ivar Kjetland have paid their tribute via a rap music video to the W201 190-class Mercedes-Benzes, the father to the current C-Class and arguably one of the last true Mercedes-Benzes ever made—most argue between the W124 E-Class and W140 S-Class.

Word is bouncing around that the next update for Mercedes-Benz’s BMW X3 fighter, the GLK, will get a “significant” facelift for the 2013 model year, MBUSA’s president Steve Cannon apparently said.

Mercedes-Benz has been hard at work to refresh their entire lineup. One of these examples is the current W204, which just recently received a major “facelift,” if you must, with the addition of a slick looking coupe version as well. If anything, it’s safe to assume that some of the cues from the updated W204 may be seen on the next GLK, with a mix of the new W166 ML crossover SUV.

Because the C-Class and E-Class all received updated 3.5L V6s, it’s also safe to assume that engine will be included with the update. The new V6 produces 302hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, versus the old versions 268hp and 258 lb-ft of twist. But the big news apparently is, Cannon almost mentioned something about a diesel powered GLK, which might leave the X3 behind in this part of the world, depending on when the GLK diesel gets here and if it does.

The supposed GLK diesel will displace 2.1L and produce 204hp and pretty hefty 369 lb-ft of torque for a supposed EPA estimate in the upper 30s. I just wonder if Mercedes will follow up on the rumor for the reintroduction of their inline-6. If everything goes as planned, Mercedes may throw that same diesel into the C-Class—all part of a plan to have at least eight diesel models in the US by 2014.

Adding a supercharger, water intercooler, upgraded exhaust, and a supercharger, Vath kicked out an awesome 680hp from the C63 AMG’s 6.2-liter V8. The extra 223-hp gives way to a top speed of 208mph and knocks the Benz’s 0-62mph time down to 4 seconds flat.

All that extra power gave Vath reason to upgrade stopping power as well, with a high-performance break system that includes 380mm discs. The car is dropped 20-65mm all around with adjustable coilover suspension, as well.

Inside, Vath adds a 360km/h speedometer, carbon fiber accents, and a sports steering wheel with options for wood or carbon fiber trim.

Exterior mods start with a carbon front spoiler and rear diffuser, a boot lip spoiler, enlarged fins, and a fresh set of 20-inch wheels with tires sized at 255/20 up front, and 295/25 in the rear.

The tuning house was not at all shy on the upgrades, but as much as this kit definitely delivers, it is a serious investment at about $83,600 USD.

Starting next year, Mercedes-Benz will start offering its C-Class and E-Class Coupes with all-wheel-drive, according to a report by CARandDRIVER.

Currently, the E-Class and C-Class Coupe are only available with rear-wheel-drive. Both cars will eventually be offered with a single engine option when they are equipped with 4Matic – a 3.5 liter V6 making 302-hp and 273 lb-ft of torque.

The move could also mean that the Mercedes-Benz C350 4Matic sedan is also in the works. The C350 sedan is currently only available with rear-wheel-drive. 4Matic is only available with the C300 sedan.

For the first time in a couple of months, Mercedes-Benz USA sold more cars than its German rival, BMW in the United States last month. Benz credits the increase to the new C-Class model lineup.

Mercedes-Benz’s U.S. sales jumped 23 percent to 22,637 units while BMW’s sales were up 13 percent to 21,873. In October, BMW boosted incentives by 35 percent per vehicle while Benz’s discounts fell by 15 percent and discounts from Lexus fell 12 percent.

BMW still keeps the lead for the year with 199,552 units sold.

“There was weakness on the 3 series for BMW as it’s winding down,” Jesse Toprak, vice president of industry trends at TrueCar.com in Santa Monica, Calif. “Dealers were pressured to aggressively clear out the end of the model year. Mercedes has newer products so they can create value with less incentives.”

Lexus sales last month fell 14 percent to 18,092.

The Japanese luxury brand has been the top-selling luxury brand in the U.S. for the past 11 years. Its lead over BMW narrowed to 9,216 in 2010.

On global scale, Mercedes-Benz has plans to introduce at least 10 new models by 2020 as plan to be the world’s top-selling luxury brand.

One of the most talked about vehicles for Mercedes-Benz USA is the A-Class three-door coupe, which will use a front-wheel-drive platform. The Mercedes-Benz A-Class will come to United States as the CLC and will go on sale in 2013 or 2014. The car will make its concept for debut at the 2011 LA Auto Show next month.

The Mercedes-Benz B-Class will come to the United States in 2013 and will also be front-wheel-drive. The model will spawn a crossover known as the GLC and a five-door shooting brake.

In 2014, Mercedes-Benz USA will offer a hybrid version of the C-Class and a 50-state clean diesel hybrid.

The Mercedes-Benz CL and GL are scheduled to be redesigned next year.

German tuning firm Brabus, famous for their decked-out lineup of Mercedes-Benzes, has just teased a new car to the public, just short of its Frankfurt Motor Show debut in September.

From just the visible details alone, it appears to be a C-Class. Maybe it could be a wicked version of the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe Black Series? Who knows. Either way, we’ll definitely find out come the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.

I was recently in Stuttgart, Germany visiting Mercedes-Benz and too the new SLS AMG Gullwing for a spin around the track. Besides its blistering fast acceleration and road-hugging handing, the sounds that the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG makes are just downright scary. It’s almost like a real beast trying to scare the crap out of you.

Benz engineers took the same approach when extracting the sound out of the new 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe Black Series.While we have no actual video of the new AMG model in action, the guys at Road&Track managed to grab some sounds of the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series revving its engine.

Be warned, the following video does not contain any burnouts or drifts – it’s just one of the scariest sounds you’ve probably ever heard from a car.

Daimler AG has announced an investment of more than $2 billion for upgrading and expanding operations at its U.S. auto assembly plant near Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The announcement came during the production of the first new 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class at the Tuscaloosa plant.

“A total amount of more than 2 billion US dollars is invested for the production of the new M-Class, the successor generations of the GL-Class and the C-Class, and the expansion of production capacities,” Mercedes-Benz said. The plant will launch C-class production in 2014.

“We’re continuing to write new chapters of the plant’s success story with significant investments into the future,” said Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Daimler Board of Management and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. “Tuscaloosa was the first production location of Mercedes-Benz Cars ever outside Germany, and today it is among our best. As our ‘pioneering plant’, it is also the blueprint for our new operations in emerging markets.” In a special address to the entire MBUSI team, Zetsche highlighted their contributions: “A big thank you to the team that helped us get that far – all of you.”

The Tuscaloosa plant opened its doors in February 1997.

The most powerful C-Class ever produced gets the Black Series treatment with insane amounts of power, a track-focued chassis and aggressive sporty styling.

Mercedes-Benz added a limited slip differential to the rear axle to improve the traction of the C63 AMG and added a stiffer anti-roll bars while upgraded the suspension with numerous setting options. Stopping power comes from giant 390mm front discs with 6-piston calipers, and 360mm discs at the rear with 4-piston calipers.

On the inside, two seats are standard but buyers can get an optional rear-bench with individual seats. While the new Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe Black Series is aggressive looking as is with wider tracks, it will be the Black Series model to get an optional Track Package and an AMG Aerodynamic Package.

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe Black Series will go on sale in January 2012 with prices starting at 115,430 euros ($165,716 USD). Mercedes-Benz says that the U.S. market launch will follow in early 2012 with prices to be announced closer to launch date.

Arrow-shaped front section with large cooling air openings

It doesn’t matter from which angle you’re looking at it: the new C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series displays its ties with motorsport from every perspective. The arrow-shaped front section with the central Mercedes star in the radiator grille is the visual synonym for its unfettered forwards thrust. The air intakes in the striking front apron ensure reliable air flow through the large cooling modules. Two openings in the aluminium bonnet support the expelling of engine heat, whilst the struts positioned at an angle in the front apron emphasise the vehicle’s width. The black front splitter located at the lower end helps to balance the vehicle aerodynamically.

The expressive design continues in the side view: the newly developed front axle with a greater track width calls for new wings, which have been widened by 28 millimetres on each side. “6.3” logos give a nod to the sheer power of the large-displacement eight-cylinder high-speed naturally aspirated engine beneath the bonnet. Air outlets intimated behind the wheel cut-outs call to mind powerful racing cars. The onlooker discovers a black strip on the restyled AMG side skirts – a look which continues the idea of the front splitter. On each side the rear wings have also been widened by 42 millimetres, due to the greater track width of the rear axle. Air openings are hinted at in front of the rear wheels, forming a fitting conclusion.

AMG light-alloy wheels featuring light forging technology

255/35 R 19 and 285/30 R 19 – these are the impressive wheel formats for the C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series at its market launch. The wheel/tyre combination is mounted on 9 x 19 (front) and 9.5 x 19 (rear) AMG light-alloy wheels, fills out the wings to stunning effect and plays a significant part in the dynamic appearance of this new AMG sports car.

Painted titanium grey, the high-sheen light-alloy wheels are produced using particularly light forging technology – as is the case on the SLS AMG. These forged wheels weigh a total of eleven kilograms less than comparable wheels with a conventional design. The lower weight results in reduced unsprung masses, which improves both the suspension’s response and the steering precision.

Broad effect of the tail end with a diffuser insert

The tail end of the Black Series coupé is also a feast for the eyes: the new rear apron with its expressive black diffuser insert creates a broad effect. Just like on the SLS AMG GT3, it protrudes beyond the profile of the rear apron. The black grille on the upper end of the diffuser insert is an eye-catching feature, as is the AMG sports exhaust system: both of the chromed twin tailpipes integrated into the rear apron have an angular cross-section. The spoiler lip on the boot lid is painted in the vehicle colour and reduces lift at the rear axle, resulting in more driving stability at high speeds. The AMG logo with its discreet “Black Series” lettering is reserved exclusively for the C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series.

Engine with high-tech components from the gull-wing model

A displacement of 6.3 litres, a maximum output of 380 kW (517 hp) and a torque of 620 newton metres from eight cylinders – one glance at the technical data and it’s clear that the engineering behind the C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series is every bit the equal of its sensational appearance. The high-torque M156 naturally aspirated engine was specially refined for the new two-door model, whose forged pistons, connecting rods and the crankshaft with a lightweight design, for example, all come courtesy of the SLS AMG. These measures are flanked by a new engine control unit. As the car’s performance proves, the uprated V8 engine has an easy time of it in the coupé: the sprint from standing to 100 is over in 4.2* seconds (* preliminary data).

Plenty of pulling power, an agile response and hefty torque – the qualities of the large-displacement AMG high-speed naturally aspirated engine arouse unadulterated passion in the driver. The jewel in the crown is the emotive, hallmark AMG eight-cylinder sound from the AMG sports exhaust system.

The optimised engine oil cooling ensures more performance even when the vehicle is put through its paces in harsh race-track conditions. With the aid of components from the SLS AMG, the AMG experts have managed to give the oil cooler a cooling surface which is 50 percent larger. The tried-and-trusted, innovative AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission takes care of power transmission. Four transmission modes, the double-declutching function and RACE START promise maximum motoring pleasure and a high degree of variability. In the “Sport plus” and “Manual” transmission modes the gear changes take a mere 100 milliseconds.

AMG coil-over sports suspension with an AMG rear axle differential lock

The AMG sports suspension is a sophisticated new development. It has been designed as a coil-over suspension, as is the norm in motorsport – and it represents a hallmark feature of a Black Series model. It offers numerous setting options, and allows the driver to create their own personal set-up. The track width of the axles has been widened by 40 (at the front) and 79 millimetres (at the rear) respectively. In conjunction with the modified torsion-bar stabilisers, the C 63 AMG Black Series impresses with its pronounced driving dynamics, high grip and low roll angle. The AMG speed-sensitive sports steering facilitates superb vehicle control: the retuned map control for the power assistance ensures optimum steering precision.

The standard-specification AMG rear axle differential lock is responsible for reliable traction in particular for race-track applications. The 3-stage ESP® offers the ideal solution for all driving situations: via the ESP® button the driver can choose from the “ESP ON”, “Sport Handling Mode” and “ESP OFF” stages. In view of the increased driving dynamics, not only has the anti-lock braking system been completely retuned; the AMG high-performance braking system has also been redeveloped: a larger braking system is now used, with discs featuring compound technology proven in motorsport at the front axle (format: 390 x 36 millimetres) and integral discs at the rear axle (360 x 26 mm). Red-painted six-piston fixed callipers at the front and four-piston fixed callipers at the rear reliably decelerate the perforated, fade-resistant brake discs, which are ventilated all round.

Interior with a functional motor-racing atmosphere

The captivating high-tech components and the spectacular exterior design both find their logical continuation in the interior of the C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series, which is black with red highlight elements, displaying the functional atmosphere of a true racing vehicle, whilst at the same time positively glowing with high quality and lovingly crafted details. Two AMG sports bucket seats facilitate the best levels of lateral support and thus optimum vehicle control on the race track. The black DINAMICA microfibre upholstery on the centre panels of the seats and doors is a new type of synthetic fibre which is characterised by its high lightfastness. The omission of the rear bench seat underlines the vehicle’s sporty character and reduces its weight. As an option the C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series is also available as a four-seater including the AMG sports seats familiar from the C 63 AMG Coupé – and with single seats in the rear.

The AMG performance steering wheel in nappa leather/DINAMICA microfibre with a steering wheel rim featuring flattened top and bottom sections has aluminium shift paddles for manual gear changes. Red seat belts and red contrasting topstitching on the steering wheel, on the seats, door centre panels, armrests on the doors, the centre console and on the shift lever gaiter add some interesting highlights. An exclusive “Black Series” logo adorns the trim on the dashboard, which sports a high-gloss black piano-lacquer look. The dashboard with three autonomous round dials has a three-dimensional TFT colour display. On opening the vehicle door the driver is greeted by AMG lettering. Possible displays for the engine oil temperature, the ESP® mode or the gear selection are integrated into the AMG main menu. The rotary switch for the C, S, S+ and M transmission modes and RACE START is located on the centre console next to the selector lever with a DINAMICA microfibre cover.

The C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series is proof positive that high driving dynamics and excellent active and passive safety need not necessarily be mutually exclusive: five airbags, belt tensioners and belt-force limiters for all seats are part of the standard specification, as are the anti-lock braking system ABS, the 3-stage ESP®, Headlamp Assist, the tyre pressure loss warning system and cruise control with SPEEDTRONIC variable speed limiter.

The standard specification also includes (selection):

AMG Track Package and AMG Aerodynamics package

AMG has two special packages to offer for enhancing driving dynamics even further: the AMG Track Package comprises 255/35 R 19 front and 285/30 R 19 rear sports tyres from Dunlop. They have been exclusively developed for the C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series, and they tangibly and measurably increase grip. Active rear-axle transmission cooling improves performance in punishing race-track conditions. The radiator is located in the rear apron and the airflow passes through it effectively.

What are known as flics are part of the AMG Aerodynamics package. They are made of genuine carbon fibre and located on the front apron. Also included in the package are a functionally tuned front splitter made of genuine carbon fibre and a fixed carbon-fibre rear aerofoil with an adjustable blade. Both components not only increase the lift at the front and rear axle; they also optimise the vehicle’s aerodynamic balance.

Other optional extras include:

Four captivating Black Series models since 2006

Whilst its driving dynamics are totally suited to the race track, the new C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series offers all the properties which characterise a true Mercedes-Benz: suitability for everyday use, durability, safety and quality.

The most powerful C-Class of all time is the fourth Black Series model to be launched since 2006. The first one was the SLK 55 AMG Black Series. The AMG 5.5-litre V8 engine in the decidedly puristic two-seater enticed customers with its maximum output of 294 kW (400 hp) and a torque of 520 newton metres, and between July 2006 and April 2007 120 units were produced. The CLK 63 AMG Black Series followed directly in its footsteps. The two-seater coupé was powered by an AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine with 373 kW (507 hp) and a torque of 630 newton metres. Between April 2007 and March 2008 700 vehicles were made.

The highlight up until now was the SL 65 AMG Black Series, which was unveiled in July 2008: the high-performance coupé still captivates drivers today with its spectacular appearance, unique performance data, systematic lightweight construction and exclusivity of the highest calibre. The AMG 6.0 litre V12 biturbo engine with a maximum output of 493 kW (670 hp) and torque of 1000 newton metres made the SL 65 AMG Black Series the most powerful AMG vehicle ever to enter series production. In total there were 350 units built from September 2008 to August 2009.

The C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series is celebrating its world premiere during the Formula 1 race on the Nürburgring, the German Grand Prix (23 – 24 July 2011). The market launch will follow in January 2012, and its sales price is 115,430 euros (incl. 19% VAT).

What you’re looking at here are the first leaked images of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series Coupe. The pictures were taken during a test event at Circuit Paul Ricard in one of the garages.

Unfortunately, the new Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series Coupe won’t be as aggressive as the CLK 63 AMG Black Series it’s replacing. Instead, the new model will have 4 seats, will weight only 44 pounds less than the C-Class Coupe and will be configured more as an everyday driver.

Power will come from a 6.2L V8 unit making 510-hp, which is just 30-hp more than the C63 AMG with an AMG Performance Package. The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series Coupe will be mated to a 7-speed ‘Speedshift’ MCT automatic transmission with a limited slip differential.

0 to 62 mph is expected to take around 4 seconds.

Refresher: The 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe is powered by a 6.3L V8 engine making 451-hp with a maximum torque of 443 lb-ft. Mated standard to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe goes from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. The AMG Development Package allows the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe to produce 481-hp. That allows it to improve 0 to 60 mph acceleration to 4.3 seconds with a top speed increased to 174 mph.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Safety Car

Mercedes-Benz has announced that the new 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG has been chosen as the Safety Car for the 2011 DTM season.The new C63 AMG Safety Car will be making its debut on May 1, 2011 at the opening race of the German Touring Car Masters season at the Hockenheimring in Baden-Württemberg.

Mercedes-Benz said that the C63 AMG had to be slightly modified for the DTM Safety Car Task, with changes made by the specialists in the AMG Overall Vehicle Development department and the AMG Performance Studio.

Power for the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG comes from 6.3L V8 engine making 451-hp, which can be increased to 481-hp with the optional AMG Development Package.

AMG has been providing the Safety Car ever since the new ‘DTM’ inception in 2000 along with Audi. However, the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG has held on to being the DTM Safety Car since its launch in 2008.

High-performance saloon developing 358 kW (487 hp) with MCT sports transmission: C 63 AMG is Safety Car for 2011 DTM season

Affalterbach – The new C 63 AMG is being used as the Safety Car for the 2011 DTM season. Following the DTM presentation in Wiesbaden on 10 April 2011, the new Safety Car will make its debut on 1 May 2011 at the opening race of the German Touring Car Masters season at the Hockenheimring in Baden-Württemberg. The V8 Sports Saloon only had to be modified slightly for its demanding DTM task. Responsibility for development and production of the C 63 AMG Safety Car was entrusted to the specialists in the AMG Overall Vehicle Development department and the AMG Performance Studio.

Decisions regarding the deployment of the Safety Car are taken by the Deutsche Motorsportbund (DMSB) – German motor racing’s governing body – which assumes responsibility for safety implementation and compliance as well as performing official sports functions in accordance with the DTM regulations. Piloted by racing driver Jürgen Kastenholz (43), the C 63 AMG Safety Car has the job of ensuring maximum safety for the racing drivers and spectators in the event of dangerous situations such as extreme weather conditions, accidents or other incidents. When radioed by Race Control, the Safety Car positions itself at the head of the DTM field and leads the cars around the circuit until normal racing can be resumed.

The new C 63 AMG being used for the 2011 DTM season scales new heights in terms of design and technology: the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine has an exceptionally high output of 358 kW (487 hp) and a peak torque of 600 Nm. The increase in output versus the standard 336 kW (457 hp) engine is due to the AMG Performance Package, which is optionally available for any C 63 AMG model and enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds (Estate 4.4 seconds). For the AMG Performance Package the engine specialists have placed their trust in a technology transfer from the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG: the forged pistons, connecting rods and lightweight crankshaft have been adopted from the gull-wing model. The lower inertia of the three-kilogram lighter components allows the naturally aspirated eight-cylinder engine to rev freely and respond even more promptly. Distinguishing features of the Performance Package include the variable intake manifold painted in titanium grey and the AMG high-performance braking system with compound brake discs at the front axle.

AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission on board

New equipment includes the innovative AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission, which incorporates a wet start-up clutch and four transmission modes as well as double-declutching and RACE START functions for optimum driving dynamics. Distinguishing features of the current model include the aluminium bonnet with modified powerdomes, the new radiator grille, the new headlamps, the new AMG rear apron with a distinctive black diffuser insert and active rear-axle cooling. To optimise radiator inflow, the AMG front apron on the DTM Safety Car features enlarged openings and side air outlets, while the AMG carbon-fibre spoiler lip on the boot lid reduces lift at high track speeds. In keeping with this design, the DTM Safety Car also sports AMG carbon-fibre exterior mirrors.

Outstanding grip thanks to differential lock and 3-stage ESP®

The adjustable coil-over suspension together with the differential lock and the 3-stage ESP® ensures a high level of agility and outstanding grip on the race track. The C 63 AMG Safety Car is shod with multi-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels painted in matt black with a high-sheen rim flange, 235/35 R 19 front tyres and 255/30 R 19 rear tyres.

The AMG high-performance braking system has been optimised for the race track: compound brake discs with six-piston brake callipers at the front axle and steel brake discs with four-piston brake callipers at the rear axle; all of the discs are internally ventilated and perforated. Meanwhile, the AMG sports exhaust system with special rear silencers produces an unmistakable AMG V8 sound.

Distinguishing features of the DTM Safety Car compared to the standard C 63 AMG include distinctive DTM Safety Car logos, the LED light bar on the roof and the stroboscopic flashing LED lights at the front and rear. A number plate illuminated with LEDs and the words “Safety Car” on the boot lid make the car easier to see in poor weather conditions. To facilitate communication with Race Control, the Safety Car is fitted with a radio system and a TV monitor. Two AMG sports bucket seats with four-point seat belts provide ideal lateral support for the driver and co-driver, while the AMG performance steering wheel in nappa leather/Alcantara with steering-wheel shift paddles assures optimum vehicle control.

DTM Safety Car from Mercedes-AMG since 2000

Mercedes-AMG has provided the Safety Car ever since the “new” DTM’s inception in 2000 and alternates with Audi from race to race. The flagship V8 C-Class model from AMG has been used in DTM since its launch in 2008. To help ensure safety on the race track in the Formula-1 World Championship, the SLS AMG is used as the Official F1TM Safety Car, while the Official F1TM Medical Car is a C 63 AMG Estate.

2011 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG

Daimler AG, owner of Mercedes-Benz, reported a 71 percent gain in first-quarter operating profits, crediting growing wealth in China with deliveries of the Mercedes-Benz S-class sedan. Daimler reported an in crease in earnings before interest and taxes to 2.03 billion euros ($3.01 billion) from 1.19 billion euros in 2010.

Sales for Daimler increased 17 percent to 24.7 billion euros.

The company said that it expects sales of the new Mercedes-Benz C-class sedan and revamped SLK to outweigh the potential repercussions of last month’s earthquake in Japan.

First-quarter net income almost doubled to 1.18 billion euros.

“We achieved excellent earnings in the first quarter. This puts us well ahead of our planning and confirms our positive outlook for the year 2011,” stated Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.

“We are on the right track. We want to delight our customers with fascinating products and strong brands, and we intend to continue our profitable growth. To go new ways successfully, we are building on our proven strengths: continuous innovation, new technologies and an outstanding team. We are consistently implementing this strategy,” stated Zetsche.
